Planning Ahead: 2026 San Diego County Fair at the Del Mar Fairgrounds

The Wave Swinger at the San Diego County FairChicken Charlie with Todd at the San Diego County Fair

As the school year comes to a close and we head into summer, I'm once again reminded that one of my family's favorite, annual activities is right around the corner!

The San Diego County Fair has become a summertime mainstay for me and my kids and honestly, its popularity with local families is hard to miss. There's a real buzz in the air as visitors roam through the fairgrounds sampling all the creative foods, stopping by their favorite vendors, riding a few rides, playing some games, and generally just making incredible memories!

My kids especially look forward to seeing the wild, new treats each year. Chicken Charlie's always draws a crowd and it's easy to see why! Their Hulu Chicken served in a carved pineapple is an absolute must try. It really sums up that "only at the Fair" feeling.

When and Where is the San Diego County Fair in 2026?

The fair will open its gates in 2026 on Wednesday, June 10th and run through Sunday, July 5th.

It will be open from 11:00am until 11:00pm from Wednesday through Sunday. The fair will be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

The San Diego County Fair will be held in Del Mar at the Del Mar Fairgrounds right by the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club. Some locals even call it the 'Del Mar Fair' thanks to its home in the Del Mar neighborhood.

What is the Theme of the 2026 San Diego Fair?

If you love a good story, you'll love this year's theme. "Once Upon a Fair" will center around storytelling. It will celebrate the community's history through a "storybook" experience.

To go along with this theme, the fair will have various exhibits. I've heard there will be a "Library Love" exhibit that will explore the importance of libraries. I'm personally curious to see how they use this theme to focus on tradition and the magic of a good story.

Family-friendly Fun

It's worth mentioning that the San Diego Fair is safe and fun for the whole family! Visiting has become a summer tradition, kicking off a few weeks after Memorial Day and closing for the year right around the Fourth of July.

If you're like me, you're probably looking for ways to make memories with your family over the summer and the fair is a great opportunity to do just that. The lively atmosphere, colorful lights, and shared sense of celebration make it a special tradition for so many in San Diego.

And for a quick bonus tip from a local, my kids also always enjoy a free summer movie in the park, just another great idea for family-friendly fun while your kids are out of school.

Tickets and Admission

As one of the more popular events in Del Mar, we recommend purchasing your tickets in advance. Doing so will also save you a few bucks!

Purchasing Tickets

Tickets are sold by date. The price ranges from $17 in advance on Wednesday or Thursday to $25 for day of the event ticket purchases on Saturdays and Sundays.

Senior citizen tickets range from $14 in advance on Wednesday or Thursday to $22 for the day of the event ticket purchases on Saturdays and Sundays.

You can also visit on Fridays when youth ages 6 to 12 are free! Kids 5 and under are always free as well.

Fair Season Pass

If you’d like to go to the fair a few times this year and you’re looking for ways to save on admission, consider purchasing a season pass. A 2026 season pass is $65 and will get you in all season long.

What Does My Ticket Include?

Your admission covers so much. Here's a quick snapshot:

  • Live Musical Performances
  • Themed Exhibits
  • Cultural Celebrations
  • Arena Shows
  • A Huge Local Artisan Marketplace
  • A Student Showcase
  • Strolling Entertainers
  • MUCH More!

For a complete list of what your ticket includes, check the fair website. Trust me, you're going to love it!

Limited Time Offers & Deals

The San Diego County Fair is offering a couple limited time offers that could help you do more for less.

Opening Day Deal - $5 Before 5

If you’re like me and are considering going to the San Diego County Fair on Opening Day, you can take advantage of a pretty awesome deal that could get you and your family in at a nice discount.

When you arrive before 5:00pm on Opening Day, Wednesday, June 10th, you’ll be admitted for just $5! That’s right - $5 fair admission before 5:00pm on Opening Day!

Discounted Tickets

If you can’t make it to Opening Day but would still like a discount, you can save up to $8.50 per ticket when you purchase your tickets in advance at a San Diego County Albertsons, Vons, or Pavilions store. Your tickets will be valid for any day during the 2026 Fair season.

If you’re planning on going with your family, this could really add up to some nice savings!

BlastPass

If you're bringing your kids, I think it's fair to say that they'll want to go on rides and play games.

If this sounds like your family, then I'd highly recommend you look into buying a BlastPass as soon as possible. The pass will get you 50% more ride and game credits as part of their early bird bonus when purchased before April 30th, and a 25% bonus when purchased between May 1st and June 9th, 2026.

The pass ranges from $20 to $100 depending on how many ride and game credits you desire.

Pay-One-Price Ride Days

If you like rides like my kids, you’ll want to check out the Pepsi Pay-One-Price Ride Days promotion.

The wristband, which is being sold for $50 before June 9th and $55 on June 10th or after, will get you unlimited Fun Zone or Kids Zone rides from 11:00am until 8:00pm on any Wednesday or Thursday.

Note that the purchase of a wristband does NOT include fair admission which will need to be purchased separately.

Is the San Diego County Fair Cashless?

Yes, the San Diego County Fair is, for the most part, cashless.

You can expect a card-only policy for parking, admission tickets, and carnival rides and games. Some food vendors may accept cash. You can find cash-to-credit ATMs on-site, but my advice is to bring your card, if possible, to save time and hassles.

Save BIG

While not directly connected to the San Diego County Fair, my friends and family that go to the fair each year are often the ones that like to do a lot, but also care about their budget! With kids myself, I can say that I totally understand!

I tell them to consider a Go City San Diego pass to save on attraction admission and gear rentals around San Diego, from a day at SeaWorld San Diego in Mission Bay Park, an afternoon at the San Diego Zoo in Balboa Park, or even a surfing lesson in La Jolla.

Plus, I suggest that they use our discount code GVSD5OFF at checkout to save even more for the best value for their money.

Stay Near the Fairgrounds

If you're coming from out of town or just looking to make a getaway out of your trip to the fair this year, I'd recommend staying at a nearby hotel.

If you would like a little luxury, my pick in Del Mar would be the L'Auberge Del Mar Resort and Spa. The newly renovated, 4-star, beachfront resort offers comfortable modern room with views of the Pacific Ocean.

Alternately, the area features a nice variety of budget-friendly hotels as well as kid-friendly hotels worth checking out.

The 5-star, luxury accommodations of L'Auberge Del Mar Resort and Spa make it the perfect fit for any couples' vacation or upscale getaway. Watch as Todd tours its ocean view pool and soothing spa.

Exploring the Fair's Main Attractions & Activities in 2026

With hundreds of vendors, tons of family-friendly activities, and fantastic food, every day at the San Diego Fair is packed with things to do.

Let's have a look at the main attractions and activities set for the 2026 San Diego County Fair.

What are the Main Attractions at the San Diego Fair?

The 2026 San Diego County Fair will be filled with entertainment including exhibitions (many ‘competitive exhibits’), a marketplace, rides and games, and much more.

If you've gone before, you'll notice that some of the entertainers and attractions are annual favorites. You'll also notice a series of all new shows and exhibits for 2026.

Here are a few of my favorites that are on my radar to check out this year.

  • Fireworks Show
  • Dog Show
  • Swifty Swine Racing Pigs
  • Bird Show with Nancy Riegler
  • Flower Show
  • Livestock Barns
  • Design in Wood Exhibit
  • Home Arts and Hobbies Exhibit
  • Student Showcase
  • The Hypnotists
  • The Jugglers and Flying Acrobats
  • Asian/Pacific Islander Festival,
  • Native American Heritage Day

When you know what day you're going to go, check the fair website. It gives a detailed daily rundown with attractions, shows, and times so you won't miss a thing.

Cultural Celebrations

I wanted to make sure to highlight the fair’s cultural celebrations.

2026 special events like Out at the Fair, Gospel Day, the Asian/Pacific Islander Festival, Native American Heritage Day, and Domingueando en la Feria are incredible opportunities to learn and especially if you have kids, teach them about other cultures and ways of life.

Check Out a World Cup Game

The fair is going on at the peak of Men’s 2026 World Cup action!

And the good news is that you won’t have to miss a game when you’re at the fair. You can watch selected games at the Michelob Ultra Paddock Tavern and cheer on your favorite teams!

Fair Food to Enjoy

For fair favorites like funnel cakes and kettle corn, vendors at the San Diego County Fair have you covered!

I'd suggest you have a tasty lunch at my favorite food vendor, Chicken Charlie's. The Hulu Chicken is delicious if you're in the mood for Asian or Hawaiian cuisine. They serve teriyaki chicken in a carved-out pineapple half as well that's really incredible.

My kids love the County Fair's playful energy and all the creative food finds. No one does over-the-top treats quite like San Diego's favorite summer tradition.

Food Discounts

There are some food discounts this year that I’m excited about. The fair’s website lists $15 meal deals, Foodie Fridays, and a Passport to Savings.

The $5 Passport to Savings is another money saving option that will offer coupons for food, rides, souvenirs, and much more. Trust me, it’s $5 well spent!

Fair-tastic Food Competition

If you’re a foodie like me, then this will certainly catch your attention. All of the food concessions participants have been asked to enter culinary creations in three categories (So San Diego, Wow, and Theme) with two classes, sweet & savory.

The top 18 finalists are set to be announced on Opening Day, Wednesday, June 10th. Those 18 Fair-tastic Food Competition finalists will then offer their award-worthy items for 1/2 PRICE from 11:00am until 4:00pm on Fridays all fair long.

The Fair-tastic finals will be held Friday, June 12th at 11:30am at the Paddock Stage. Z90.3's Rick Morton, and judges Troy Johnson of San Diego Magazine and the Food Network, Claudia Sandoval of Claudia's Cucina and MasterChef, and a select panel of Fair-tastic VIP Guest judges will all be there to pick the winners!

I don’t know if you’d agree, but I think this sounds like a great event to check out!

The featured performers for this year's fair are AMAZING! There's something for all age groups. Just wait until you see who will be performing.

Every year, the San Diego County Fair hosts a variety of live performing acts. Both national and local artists are featured as part of the Toyota Summer Concert Series on the Corona Grandstand Stage, Chevrolet Paddock Concert Series, and as part of Summer Nights at the Sound.

Just Announced! Comedian Gabriel 'Fluffy' Iglesias and More!

Gabriel Jesús Iglesias, the comedian commonly known as 'Fluffy' was just added to the Toyota Concert Summer Series lineup and I for one think this is a pretty big deal.

Known worldwide for his Netflix specials, he's sold out Madison Square Garden and the Sydney Opera House to name a few. His comedy centers around Mexican American culture, everyday life, and observational humor.

We also just got word that GriZ with Sippy and Brett Michaels and Night Ranger will also be joining the already exciting 2026 lineup. Tickets went on sale to the general public on Friday, April 17th at 10:00am.

What are Summer Nights at the Sound?

Summer Nights at the Sound are special shows and performances that require a ticket to attend. The good news is that your ticket to a performance also includes same-day admission to the San Diego County Fair.

Highlights for my kids include the laser shows, especially the Pink Floyd Laser Spectacular set for 5:00pm and 8:00pm on Saturday, June 13th. I personally am looking forward to seeing Stayin Alive, One Night of the Bee Gees on Sunday, June 14th at 6:30pm.

The good news here is that these performances are included with general fair admission.

Getting There and Parking

The Del Mar Fairground is located at 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd, Del Mar, CA 92014. Traffic getting to this area can be tricky. I'd suggest that you leave plenty of time to get there, and plan accordingly.

Can You Bring Water to the San Diego County Fair?

It's important to stay hydrated during the summer in San Diego, and as a result, guests are allowed to bring water to the San Diego County Fair.

The water must be in a sealed, store-bought bottle. Alternatively, you can bring in an empty, refillable bottle. My family does this, and we use the handy refillable water stations to save money on drinks throughout the day.

Bringing Food to the Fair

With so many amazing food vendors, there's really no reason to bring food to the fair, but it is permitted. Guests can bring a small cooler with personal snacks and lunch.

Just know that the guest services people will check your cooler upon entry to ensure there's no glass, alcoholic beverages, or sharp utensils.

What Else Is There to Do in Del Mar with My Family?

Del Mar is a beautiful seaside town offering quality restaurants, cafes, and a beautiful Pacific Ocean coastline with beaches just waiting to be explored! I personally think Torrey Pines State Beach with its long sandy coastline and bluffs is a great choice, but if you have your dog with you, Del Mar Dog Beach is another excellent option.

If you have young kids and like theme parks, LEGOLAND California, part of the Go City San Diego pass, and the picturesque Carlsbad neighborhood are about 20 minutes to the south.

La Jolla, a neighborhood full of outdoor shopping, family-friendly beaches, and my favorite aquarium in San Diego, the Birch Aquarium at Scripps, is about 15 to 20 by car or rideshare to the south.

If you happen to be in town just after the fair concludes for 2026, The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club is nearby and honestly (and maybe surprisingly to some), a really great time for families. With the summer horse racing season kicking off on July 17th, 2026, the events are always action packed and something my family really enjoys.

Can I Bring My Pet to the Fair?

There is a 'no pet' policy. However, service animals are always welcome to attend.

Bonus Tip from Experience: Wear Sunscreen

San Diego is sunny year-round, so make sure to wear sunscreen and to reapply regularly throughout the day so you avoid a painful sunburn.
