What Marine St Beach is Known For

Fewer Crowds

While visitors tend to frequent the more famous La Jolla beaches like the La Jolla Cove and La Jolla Shores, locals who want a little less crowd interaction seek the serenity of Marine Street beach.

You will see more sun worshippers here on holidays and fine summer days, but you can enjoy some quiet time if you claim your spot in the soft sand during the more peaceful morning or late afternoon hours.

A Prime Location

You will find this welcoming stretch of sand located between Windansea Beach and The La Jolla Tide Pools. High-rise apartments overlook the beach on the north end while private homes are more prevalent to the south. Because this is one of the longer beaches in La Jolla, it is a great area for strolling and perhaps taking a selfie or two with a mossy rock formation in the background.

Local Tips
The Hidden Gem in La Jolla
Marine Street Beach is a hidden gem in La Jolla. Just north of the popular Windansea Beach, Marine St Beach is a wide open beach with lots of sand to sunbath, rocky reef with tide pools to explore and even volleyball nets for a fun game with your friends.

Better for Experienced Adults

Experienced surfers and bodyboarders are partial to Marine Street because the waves here are challenging and tend to crash at the shoreline. However, since the surf can be rough, children and inexperienced swimmers are advised to seek calmer waters.

Further Enjoyment

The nearby kelp beds, home to sea life of all kinds, attract scuba divers. But if you are not interested in underwater exploration, you can take a short walk north and, at low tide, explore the tide pools just north of Hospitals at a famous spot appropriately named The La Jolla Tide Pools. If you are able to spend time at Marine Street beach later in the day, you’ll find that this is a great place to admire a spectacular sunset over the Pacific Ocean.

A Browsing Break

If you feel you’ve had enough sun for a while, you might want to take a break and explore La Jolla, perhaps have lunch and do a little window shopping—or actual shopping, if your resistance is at a low point.

La Jolla is a beautiful area, considered a “village” by locals. Many shops cater to the wealthy, but you can find a little of everything here, from fashionista to funky, in every price range.
