Coronado Island and the San Diego Bay are perfect locales for anyone who loves being on or near the water!

There’s plenty to do here for locals and tourists alike, including exquisite parks and sidewalk cafés, a boardwalk, many beaches, San Diego’s cruise ship terminal, a vibrant sailing community, and even opportunities for whale watching!

This area offers some of the best beach going conditions in all of San Diego, with typical sunny weather and sandy shorelines. Coronado Island surrounds the bayside beaches, protecting them from tides and the currents. It’s not the best place if you’re looking for some classic San Diego surfing, but swimmers and sunbathers will find a lot to love.

Explore the San Diego harbor and make some long-lasting memories. While you’re there, don’t forget to check out fun nearby attractions like the USS Midway Museum and other historic sites.

While visiting Coronado Island, consider staying a night at one of the most famous and iconic hotels in all of San Diego, the Hotel Del Coronado! This 4-star, Victorian era, beach front hotel is family-friendly and offers full-service accommodations as well as free Wifi.

Impress your friends with a little trivia about the Hotel Del Coronado as it was the inspiration behind the design of the world-famous Grand Floridian Hotel at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida!

Traverse the Bayside Area

Don’t get confused: though it’s called Coronado Island, it’s actually a peninsula that stretches along the San Diego bay, so you won’t need to swim or take a boat to get there! Coronado Island’s southern end connects to the mainland just north of Imperial Beach, while the northern end is near Point Loma and the Cabrillo National Monument.

To get to the main part of Coronado, follow State Route 75. Interstate 5 will bring you along the shoreline of the bay from the Downtown and San Diego International Airport area, which is just a few minutes to the north.

While you’re there, consider renting a bike, kayak, or stand-up paddle board so you can get the most out of the beaches, boardwalk, and biking trails. Take a walking tour of the beaches, or visit the Coronado Museum of History & Art to learn more about the area.

You can save on all of these activities and rentals with a Go San Diego Pass, and enjoy an additional discount when you purchase the pass via our website.
