Chili, music, art, and shopping…what more could you ask for? It's time to get pumped for the 46th Annual Ocean Beach Street Fair & Chili Cook-Off!

When and Where is the 2026 OB Street Fair & Chili Cook-Off?

The OB Street Fair is set for Saturday, June 27th, 2026 from 10:00am to 8:00pm. The Chili Cook-Off is scheduled for 11:00am to 1:30pm.

You'll find all the food and fun in the grassy area at Veteran's Plaza near the Ocean Beach Pier.

What is the OB Street Fair All About?

I'm always looking for interesting events, festivals, markets, attractions, and activities that are fun for my family and honestly that I think I would enjoy as well. With my kids home on summer break, finding these activities becomes even more important!

Set just before the big yearly July 4th celebrations in San Diego, this long-running community event is an easy add to my calendar.

The Ocean Beach Street Fair & Chili Cook-Off is always an opportunity for the San Diego community to come together for a day of family-friendly fun that includes live music, regional and local art, an extensive marketplace for shopping, multiple eating competitions, and a chili-cook-off competition that anyone can join.

How Long Has the OB Street Fair Been Held?

The family-friendly event was first held in 1984. It started off as just a small chili cook-off with Mike Akey, today an OB MainStreet Association board of directors' member.

Here's a fun fact…it was cool enough to be sanctioned by the International Chili Society for the first three years! After that, it transitioned to an amateur cook-off.

Throughout the 40+ years, it has grown into a street fair that now attracts thousands of visitors annually.

Today, along with the Adams Avenue Street Fair which will take place on September 19th and 20th in 2026, the OB Street Fair has become one of my favorite San Diego street fairs of the year! It's about bringing the community together for live music, entertainment, art, shopping and of course chili!

Ticket & Hotel Info

Now that you know a little about this year's street fair, let me tell you about ticket information and if I wanted a nice hotel nearby, which one I'd recommend.

How Much Does It Cost to Attend the OB Street Fair & Chili Cook-Off?

Admission to the 46th Annual Ocean Beach Street Fair & Chili Cook-Off is FREE. It doesn't get much better than that, right?

Chili Cook-Off Tasting Prices

You can taste two chili recipes for $5, or if you are a chili connoisseur like me, you'll want to try as many recipes as you can! If you want to try every recipe and vote for the one you think is best, I suggest you buy a Master Ticket for $30.

Master Tickets can be purchased in advance online (must be picked up by noon on event day from Will Call) while both Master Tickets and Chili Cook-Off Tasting Tickets can be purchased at the cash only booth in the Veterans Plaza on the day of the event. All sales are final.

Tastings will begin at 11:00am and will continue until samples run out.

New for the 2026 event, you can purchase a Master Ticket Combo for $76.50 which includes a Master Tasting Ticket, an official OB Street Fair & Chili Cook-Off t-shirt, and a tote. You must pick these up at the ticket booth. Keep in mind, all sales are final.

Stay Near the OB Street Fair

My family and I like making a staycation out of an event like the OB Street Fair.

If you're like us, or perhaps traveling in from out of town for the event, consider booking a room at The Inn at Sunset Cliffs. Located less than one mile from the event, the property is one of my favorite hotels in the area because of its beautiful ocean views and comfortable rooms.

Culinary Competitions

You can once again enjoy the time-honored annual Chili Cook-Off alongside other culinary competitions and more in 2026.

For me, I love the chili tasting, but there's also eating competitions and food vendors. So, whether you like burgers or wings, the event will surely offer something for everyone!

What is the Ocean Beach Chili Cook-Off?

Open to cooks of all skill levels, everyone from amateurs to restaurant pros, the Chili Cook-Off is an annual chili competition complete with tastings and awards.

The Chili Cook-Off will run from 11:00am until 1:30pm in 2026, with winners set to be announced at the Sunset Stage from 2:30pm until 3:00pm. So you know where to go, the Chili Cook-Off competition will be held in the grassy area between Newport Avenue and the Pacific.

How Can I Become a Chili Cook-Off Contestant?

Whether you represent a restaurant, are an award winning professional, or just an average Joe that cooks a mean chili, everyone is welcome to enter!

Applications are closed for this year, so be sure to register next winter as the window usually opens in February.

Can I Sample the Chili at the Ocean Beach Chili Cookoff?

Walking around the area and smelling all of those different chili recipes is going to leave you wanting to have a taste…or two...or three. Luckily, you'll be able to do just that! There will be a couple of ways you can sample the chilis at this year's event.

You can become a taster for the event and cast your vote alongside the judges by purchasing a sample ticket! Your vote will help determine the winner of the 'People's Choice Award' for both the amateur and restaurant divisions.

What are the Award Categories?

With an entry, you'll get to compete for the title of Hottest Chili, Judges' Award, and Grand Prize: People's Choice Award!

Dirty Birds Wing Eating Contest

Set for the Sunset Stage at 1:00pm, the OB Dirty Birds Wing Eating Contest is a hilariously exciting eating challenge I would not recommend you try at home, but I would totally recommend you make time to see.

With the 2025 winner finishing 35 wings, this is one of my favorite competitions to watch!

Hodad's Burger Eating Contest

If you like watching Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island each Fourth of July like I do, then I'm going to bet you'll love Hodad's Burger Eating Contest as well.

Held on the Sunset Stage from 3:00pm until 3:30pm, you'll get to see the reigning champion Justin compete against other contestants in this awesome burger-eating contest you won't soon forget!

Proceeds from this event will support OBMA's Friends of OB Clean & Safe Program.

Non-Stop Entertainment & Family-Friendly Activities

The 2026 Ocean Beach Street Fair & Chili Cook-Off will offer a wide variety of entertainment and events, especially if you're a music lover.

What is the Main Entertainment at the OB Street Fair?

With so much to do and see at the OB Street Fair it can be hard to put your finger on the main entertainment. Some people would surely say it's the food or of course the chili. Others might say the 'shopping' or 'the art'.

I love the live music! You'll be able to get comfy and enjoy two stages of music. From acoustic to rock and blues, there will absolutely be something for everyone.

I'm hoping to catch the Electric Waste Band myself but with two stages and 15 total performances, I'm sure the whole day of live music will be a real treat!

Let's take a look at this year's amazing musical lineup.

Art, Shopping, Eating & More!

Beyond the musical entertainment, the 2026 OB Street Fair will also offer plenty of other activities so you can pack your day full of fun!

Street Fair Community Mural

You'll once again be able to express your creative side in 2026 by painting a square on one of three OB community mural projects. Open to San Diego residents and guests of all ages, this may be the year that I get in on the action myself!

The murals will be located on Bacon Street, just south of Newport. All materials will be provided for $30 per square and go on sale at 10:00am. After the street fair, the murals will be sealed and installed in the community.

So, your artwork will be on display! Pretty cool, don't you think?

Merchant & Food Vendor Market

While the weekly OB Farmer's Market, one of San Diego's many incredible farmers markets, normally takes place on Wednesday's between 4:00pm and 8:00pm, the OB Street Fair will offer an incredible marketplace of its own.

With booths along Abbott St., Bacon St. and Cable St. you'll find an eclectic variety of vendors offering arts, crafts, food and more! Some of my favorite vendors from past years have sold fresh flowers, plants, local produce, freshly baked breads, desserts, honey, kombucha and hot food.

Artists Alley

A huge part of the vendor area, 'Artist Alley' located on Cable Street will include 70 booths offering everything from local and regional handmade jewelry and one-of-a-kind paintings, to ceramics, clothing and more!

There will also be an opportunity to watch live demonstrations and interact with artists from the area. For me, this part of the event is uniquely 'Ocean Beach' and something I really enjoy.

Family Fun Zones

If the 2026 Family Fun Zones are like year's past, then they won't disappoint!

With one setup between Target and Shore Thing Pet Supply and the other between Wings Army and Krisp, your kids may be able to enjoy inflatables, crafts, Rock & Roll San Diego and Paper Moon Music lessons, the Rad Hatter, and more.

Ocean Beergarden

Get ready to enjoy cold brews and ocean views at this year's Beachside Ocean Beer Garden!

Located right next to the Sunset Stage, this 21+ event will feature beer and mixed drinks as well as seltzers, shots, and more! Two-for-one drinks will be available early from 11:00am until 1:00pm.

You'll also be able to check out the beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean at the Skybar and take a wild ride on the mechanical bull, a new addition in 2026!

Getting to the Event, Parking & Public Transportation

Whether you prefer to drive and park or use a public transportation option, let me share the best ways to get to the street fair.

Can I Drive and Will There be Parking?

The easy answer is 'yes', you can drive to the OB Street Fair & Chili Cook-Off and there will be parking.

The Sunrunner lot on the corner of Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) and Sea World Drive will offer free parking and is your best bet.

Old Town Trolley will once again be offering five free trolleys that will run continuously from 9:30am until 9:00pm to take you right to the festival. The trolleys will pick from the Sunrunner lot and near Robb Field with drop-off at Artist Alley.

You'll also find a pay lot on Ocean Front Way as well as other pay lots and street parking in the area.

Will There be ADA Parking Spaces and Drop-Off?

There will be 20 ADA parking spaces available during the event: 10 on Santa Monica Ave and 10 on Newport Ave. The ADA drop-off location will be on the corner of Santa Monica Ave. & Bacon St.

This map will give you the best idea of exactly where these spaces will be located so you won't be playing a guessing game.

Will There be Bike Parking?

Yes! If you're coming from the nearby area, you could ride a bike to the event and take advantage of the FREE bike valet which will be located at the corner of Bacon St. and Newport Ave., starting at 10:00am.

What is the Best Way to Get to the OB Street Fair?

Sure, you could always pack up the family in the car and hope there is space in the Sun Runner lot, or in another pay lot like the Hodad's lot, Rite Aid, CVS or Santa Monica/Bacon lot. You could also look for parking on the street.

It is possible, but honestly, as someone who knows the area quite well, it could be a hassle, and I wouldn't recommend it.

The best ways to get to the OB Street Fair will be to ride the Old Town Trolley or arrive by bike. These options are better for the environment, and we always prefer sustainable transportation when possible!

As I mentioned above, there are 5 free trolleys running throughout the day. Take advantage of these!
