SeaWorld San Diego's Newest Exhibit!

SeaWorld San Diego is full of interesting exhibits, entertaining shows, and thrill rides that will leave you wanting a second go. But I personally think that where the park truly shines is with its educational and immersive animal exhibits.

The fully reimagined Shark Encounter exhibit opened on May 22nd, 2026, is more unforgettable than ever! I know that SeaWorld San Diego is one of our founder Todd's favorite spots to visit in Mission Bay Park and that's in large part due to SeaWorld's dedication to innovation and education with exhibits just like this.

What is SeaWorld San Diego's New Shark Encounter?

SeaWorld San Diego's new Shark Encounter is a refreshed aquarium experience designed to showcase an impressive array of sharks. Guests will get to learn about various shark species, including their shapes, sizes, and how they are a big player in keeping our oceans healthy. The major update has also added in new technology and experiences that will make this a must-see exhibit!

One of the many things that I love about SeaWorld San Diego is their commitment to education. The new Shark Encounter reflects this commitment. It aims to break down traditional fears about sharks and educate guests about their diversity.

Why Visit SeaWorld San Diego (Soon) to See the New Shark Encounter?

SeaWorld San Diego is full of heart pounding rides and family-friendly entertainment. When you consider San Diego's beautiful summer weather, upcoming list of exciting seasonal events, and the new reimagined shark exhibit, I think this summer would be the perfect time for a visit!

With daily shows, updated animal experiences, and rides for the entire family, the park is a favorite among locals and always a must-see for San Diego visitors. There is so much family fun to be had at the park that we've even included a visit as part of our site's lists of the Best Kid-Friendly Attractions in San Diego and Fun Things to Do in San Diego with Kids.

SeaWorld San Diego Ticket Information

If you want to see the new Shark Encounter, you can do so with a general admission ticket starting on May 22nd. You can buy daily passes online, starting at just $59.99. That's the basic entry price and then there are also many different add-ons for meals and other features.

How to Get Discounted Tickets to SeaWorld San Diego

But I have to tell you that it's one of my favorite local tips to consider a Go City San Diego pass instead of just buying a day pass…and I'll tell you why!

The pass will get you into SeaWorld San Diego on your day of choice without waiting in any lines. You'll get into the park at a cheaper price, plus it will include admission to more than 40+ attractions throughout San Diego. I'm talking about the San Diego Zoo, San Diego Zoo Safari Park, LEGOLAND California, a number of museums in Balboa Park, and that is just to name a few. The pass does this by bundling two or more attractions and thus offers you lower negotiated prices.

You can also use our discount code GVSD5OFF for a little added savings at checkout!

Shark Encounter: An Immersive Experience

SeaWorld San Diego is giving its guests an up-close-and-personal look, some might even say a 'face-to-fin experience, at a wide variety of sharks.

With that in mind, let's take a deeper dive into what you can expect when you visit the updated Shark Encounter exhibit.

What's New with the Shark Encounter in 2026?

If you've visited SeaWorld San Diego and seen the sharks in the past, you'll quickly notice the new floor-to-ceiling glass wall that will truly bring the sharks to life. LED technology has been added to enhance this exhibit's experience. The finale will also now include multiple screens featuring an 8-minute shark presentation allowing you to see rare live footage of these amazing creatures in their natural habitat.

Throughout the Shark Encounter, you will hear education-focused stories to help you gain a deeper understanding of these animals. And possibly most exciting to younger kids, a new overhead video ceiling has been added in the entry hallway featuring sharks swimming above. You'll have to see it for yourself to appreciate it!

What Else You Can Expect

While the new state-of-the-art multimedia will bring striking visuals to the experience, the journey to get there will be equally impressive. The exhibit has added new immersive guides as you make your way through the ocean environment.

You'll also get to see eleven species of sharks, including the sandbar shark, whitetip reef sharks, sand tiger sharks, and many more! What's so special about this experience is that you can see the ocean like never before, as sharks go swimming by in a habitat that was thoughtfully built to mimic their native homes. This was designed to help visitors appreciate the beauty and power of these animals.

SeaWorld San Diego's Conservation Efforts

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention SeaWorld San Diego's conservation efforts with their newly improved Shark Encounter exhibit. Almost all of the sharks featured are listed as either vulnerable or near threatened.

Caring for these extraordinary animals and educating the public about their importance to our world's ecosystem is just one more example of the park's dedication to species protection.

The more you know before you go to see the new reimagined Shark Encounter exhibit, the better your time will be during your visit!

When is Best the Time to Visit the New Shark Encounter at SeaWorld?

I suggest going as early in the day as possible. The park offers a full day's worth of things to see and I find crowds smaller in the mornings. If possible, I'd also suggest that you visit during the week to avoid larger crowds and longer lines.

How Much is Parking?

General parking starts at $25 a day. You can save time by buying your parking online before you go.

Where is the Shark Encounter Located in SeaWorld San Diego?

You'll find Shark Encounter near the rear of the park behind the Dolphin Stadium, between the Freshwater Aquarium and the Turtle Reef.

As a bonus tip, I would highly recommend downloading the SeaWorld San Diego's app. With a digital map of the entire park on your phone, you'll have everything you need at your fingertips to plan out your day!
