SeaWorld San Diego, a leading attraction in the beautiful Mission Bay, is a must-see for anyone who plans to visit Southern California. This marine theme park offers a mix between spine-tingling rides and up-close encounters with sea life.

This attraction is the perfect blend of a park and an aquarium, and it’s one of my favorite places to go as a family when in San Diego. We all love walking through the aquarium and having fun on the rides.

In addition to its family-friendly fun, SeaWorld San Diego brings education to the forefront, with many opportunities to learn about marine life during your visit. It’s an excellent resource for parents with curious kids and the perfect way to keep young minds engaged while on vacation.

This incredible park spans over 200 acres and is chock-full of rides, interactive exhibits, shows, and mouth-watering food options. Anyone who visits should plan six to eight hours of their day touring this fantastic attraction.

If you’re a local or planning to visit San Diego a few times this year, I suggest picking up an annual pass instead!

These passes allow for unlimited admission for 12 months from their purchase date and also include either free or 50% off parking depending on the type of card, plus discounts on food and merchandise purchased within the park. The Silver, Gold and Platinum annual passes come with 2, 4, or 6 free guest tickets respectively.

Shark Encounter

Visit the Shark Encounter to see sharks up-close and personal! This exhibit allows you to see sharks from within their environment. You will observe the sharks within a tunnel that is surrounded by glass allowing you to look up at the sharks. This is a must-see exhibit.

Enjoy the Dolphins and Sea Otters

Head on over to Dolphin's point where you can visit the famous bottlenose dolphins. Observe their fun, mischievous natures within the open water exhibit as they play, swim, and show off for you.

Dolphin Point also features a Sea Otter exhibit where you can watch these furry little sea creatures play and dive for shrimp!

Beautiful Beluga Whales and Massive Walruses

SeaWorld San Diego also has an Arctic animal exhibit! Meet the magnificent beluga whales, enormous walruses, and mischievous harbor seals!

Friendly Sea Lions

Don't forget about the sea lions. Sea Lion Point is right in the middle of all the other animal exhibits. You cannot miss it!

Take a special behind the scenes look at the life of a sea lion inside of SeaWorld. Enjoy observing their fun personalities as they interact with you face to face.

Walk Among Tanks of Jellyfish

The new exhibit “The Jewels of the Sea: The Jellyfish Experience” is planned to open at SeaWorld San Diego in Spring of 2024. This promises to be an awe-inspiring look at live galleries of jellyfish stationed in an 18-foot-tall cylindrical tank, plus a walk-through arch tank.

The jellyfish on display will include rare and colorful species like Upside-Down Jellyfish and Moon Jellyfish. Guests who choose to take a tour of this exhibit will have the chance to learn more about these unique creatures and even to get up-close with them via a touch tank.

SeaWorld's Hand in Conservation Initiatives

SeaWorld is an organization that is credited by the American Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). To achieve this certification, they are required to donate large sums of their funds to conservation works.

To help SeaWorld, you can purchase a ticket to the Aquatica Water Park. Aquatica is operated by SeaWorld and is located next to the park. Each ticket purchase to Aquatica is donated into the fund to give to world-wide conservation initiatives.

Join in on Dolphin Days

During Dolphin Day, you can learn about each Dolphin individually. These bottlenose dolphins are known for their high jumps, playful personalities, and their intelligence.

Watch high-flying bottlenose dolphins break the surface of the water as they perform tricks for the audience.

Sea Lions Live!

Clyde, Seamore and their otter buddy, OP, star in their variety TV show! You can see otter renditions of today's most popular shows. Some of their shows include Survival: Mission bay, Dancing with the Pinnipeds, and Super Seamore!

Events Adults Can Enjoy

SeaWorld features several other shows that are more adult-oriented. Want an adult-centered vacation? Visit SeaWorld in May to enjoy the Seven Seas Food Festival!

Live Polynesian fire dancing ignites the Polynesian Flavors Stage during the Festival! It's a nightly occurrence, so you're sure to catch it.

Sesame Street® Bay of Play is an area that is designed with your little ones in mind so the whole family can enjoy these rides!

Ride in circles on Elmo's flying fish, and you swim through an imaginary ocean, on a fish that looks just like Elmo. Or, if you have older children, take a ride on the medium-thrill ride, Riptide Rescue.

Tidal Twister

Take a thrilling ride on Tidal Twister, and you are strapped in and thrown into twists, curves, and corkscrews.

If you have any members of your family who enjoy an adrenaline-packed experience, Tidal Twister is perfect for them! Must be 48" or taller to ride.

Family Adventure Tour

Starting at just $69 per person, you can take your family on a tour that allows you to get up close and personal with many different animals.

For nearly 2 hours, you will get to explore the Park before it even opens. Take a tour of the explorer's reef as you interact with the sharks and cleaner fish, and end the tour playing with dolphins!

This is a tour that anyone can enjoy.

The FantaSEA of Dreams Fireworks Spectacular is a nightly show at SeaWorld San Diego, featuring a stunning fireworks display set to the music of Believe, complete with specially composed SeaWorld lyrics, all against the backdrop of a vibrant night sky.

Bayside Skyride

Take a leisurely ride through the sky, on Bayside Skyride. Enjoy this round-trip ride that provides you with beautiful views as you soar above the Park and the scenic, Mission Bay.

Sit back and relax as this gondola glides you from one side of the Park to the other and back.

Each ride is just $6 extra per person for anyone over the age of 3.

Journey to Atlantis

Journey to Atlantis is a roller coaster and a water ride packed into one! Cool off on this beautiful ride that takes you up above the park. Get a panoramic view of the Park before plunging more than ten stories into the water below.

Be prepared for water to engulf your entire body. This ride does not go underwater, although it will seem like you did!

Skytower

For just an additional $6, you can take a trip to the top of the Skytower. Here is where you can see spectacular views of Mission Bay and the gorgeous Pacific Ocean.

Visit Turtle Reef

With all the excitement, you may be tempted to skip the turtles, but don't! See loggerhead, hawksbill, and green sea turtles. Some are more than 50 years old.

Watch as they swim among schools of tropical fish through their open watered tank. Watch as the endangered and rescued sea turtles glide through their 126,000-gallon tank.

Turtle Reef is filtered using a natural filter, like that of a wetland ecosystem. This helps to conserve water, keep the turtles healthy, and reduce the energy cost. This biofiltration system is the first of its kind in a zoological setting.

From any exit, continue onto Sea World Drive. From there, you will fork onto Oceangate Way, or turn right onto South Shore Road. Parking is available on both streets; you can't miss it.

No Food or Flavored Beverages in the Park

Unfortunately, you are not allowed to bring in your food, or flavored drink. You are, however, allowed to bring your water.

There is a picnic area right outside of the gates for your convenience.

The worst part of SeaWorld? Getting to a ride to find out one of your children does not meet the height requirement.
