When and Where is 2026 San Diego Comic-Con?

San Diego Comic-Con 2026 is scheduled for Thursday, July 23rd until Sunday, July 26th, 2026, with a special preview night set for Wednesday, July 22nd.

The main events will take place in and around the San Diego Convention Center in the Embarcadero neighborhood along the San Diego Bay.

What Can I Expect at This Year's Comic-Con?

From humble beginnings in 1972 for a niche audience, to today welcoming over 135,000 enthusiasts annually, San Diego Comic-Con 2026 will bring together fans, creators, and celebrities from around the world for what has become a unique San Diego tradition!

All four days will be full of celebrity panel discussions and special guest appearances by famous names in pop culture. There will also be a wealth of vendors to check out in the legendary Exhibit Hall.

You can expect to see Marvel Studios, LEGO, Nickelodeon, and many more represented plus an Artist Alley with dozens of popular art pieces to explore, Masquerade on-stage costume competition, Film Festival, games, and much more!

Local Tip: Go Even Without a Badge!

Even if you don't have a badge to get into the San Diego Convention Center, don't worry! I can say from many years of attending the festivities myself that there will still be a lot going on outside. Think pop-up experiences, immersive exhibits, and plenty of spots to soak in the atmosphere.

While I've scored tickets, or badges as they're often called, in past years, honestly, I usually skip the crowds inside and focus on all the action happening around Downtown San Diego and Gaslamp Quarter. To me it's just as much fun!

Tickets, Pricing & Where to Stay

Comic-Con has a per-day schedule of how they sell their tickets or as they call them 'attendee badges'. You can choose to attend one day or all four days.

Is San Diego Comic-Con 2026 Sold Out?

Unfortunately, yes, all the attendee badges are sold out for the 2026 event. I can say that being able to buy tickets is a win in itself as they sell out almost instantly.

But there are still many ways to enjoy the action even without an attendee badge such as being part of the cosplay outside, the kid zones, or checking out one of the pop-up sets in the area.

Comic-Con San Diego the place to be!
Comic-Con San Diego the place to be!

Can I Attend Comic-Con Without a Ticket?

The short answer is 'no', you will need an official badge to get to the convention center stairs and inside the convention center. Without a ticket you won't be able to get inside in 2026.

However, you can (and should in my humble opinion) be part of the action at San Diego Comic-Con 2026 even if you don't have access to the events inside the convention center. There will be a lot to see and do outside such as pop-up sets you can walk through, buildings wrapped with some of the biggest banner advertisements I've ever seen, and vendors selling goods of all types.

And for me, the real highlight is the people watching! Cosplay at Comic-Con is on a whole other level, with hundreds of fans showing up as their favorite movie, TV, or comic book characters. It's impossible not to get swept up in the excitement, whether you're geeking out over an elaborate costume or catching glimpses of themed events lining the streets.

How Do I Get an Attendee Badge for the 2027 San Diego Comic-Con?

I will say right up front that badges are hard to get no matter how you go about it, but with a little preparation, it is possible to secure tickets for you and your family.

You'll need to first sign-up for a Comic-Con Member ID. Then badges are historically sold about seven to nine months in advance at one of two sales events - Returning Registration and Open Registration.

As of now, the 2027 badges are set to go on sale in the fall of 2026. Historically, returning attendee badges have been sold in late September. First-time attendee badges have been sold in late November.

The process is all digital and includes joining a virtual waiting room, waiting (and hoping) your number gets called, and then buying your tickets. You can find more details about the process on Comic-Con's official site. As they say and we agree, it's never too early to sign-up for a Comic-Con Member ID and join their mailing list so you can be kept up to date with the latest on the 2027 attendee badge sales.

Many of the best hotels near the convention center likely will book up far in advance of Comic-Con.

The good news is that if you're willing to walk just 10 or 15 minutes, you'll have more fantastic options for your Comic-Con event weekend.

Who are the Special Guests Scheduled to Appear at Comic-Con 2026?

One of the main draws for comic aficionados at Comic-Con San Diego is attending panel discussions with their favorite creators and stars.

Each year the program includes special guests from every area of comics, science fiction, and fantasy. No matter your interest, there'll be established speakers and rising stars, ready to share their experiences and answer audience questions.

As of April 2026, the special guest list and complete programming schedule is still in the works. You can check back with us here as we're planning on updating this list as soon as the 2026 special guest list is released.

Who Have Been the Biggest Special Guests in Recent Years?

Last year, the big draw was Star Wars creator George Lucas. As of now, I don't think he'll be attending in 2026 but I'm sure the list will still be as impressive as always. Last year featured more than 50 special guests. Below were a few of my favorites from the 2025 event.

  • Julio Anta
  • Patrick Ballesteros
  • Michael Cho
  • Sarah Gailey
  • Kendall Hale
  • Jonathan Hickman
  • Robin Hobb
  • Tom King
  • Todd Klein
  • Jim Lee
  • Lee Marrs
  • Scott Snyder
  • William Stout
  • Babs Tarr

Masquerade Competition

The Masquerade Competition has been a Comic-Con staple since 1974. This year's event will be held on Saturday, July 25th, 2026, at 8:30pm. You'll get to see what's similar to a 'talent show' featuring an array of costumed, non-professional fans. There will be awards and trophies for the winners.

The event will take place in Ballroom 20. Check back for ticket info and procedures for entry as details for the 2026 event are still being worked out. If you're lucky enough to get a ticket to watch, I'd suggest you make time for this event as contestants take this very seriously. It's truly a sight to be seen!

Films and Games

If you love movies and games as I do, you'll want to look for the schedule during Comic-Con because there will likely be 100's of games and dozens of films scheduled for the weekend.

Check the events schedule or MySchedule (powered by SCHED) as the event approaches for a complete list.

I've found that many of the games and films in past years weren't at the convention center, rather at surrounding hotels and businesses, meaning even without a badge, you could still watch or play!

Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival 2026

The 25th Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival 2026, or CCI_IFF, will be held at the Marriott Marquis and Marina Hotel in Marriott Grand Ballroom 6, which is next to the Hall A side of the convention center.

The 2026 lineup will not disappoint with dozens of films spanning seven different genres created by filmmakers from around the world! The film categories are listed below.

  • Action/Adventure
  • Animation
  • Comics-Oriented
  • Documentary (Popular Arts-Oriented)
  • Horror/Suspense
  • Science Fiction/Fantasy

There will be panel discussions Thursday, Friday, and Saturday and awards handed out on Sunday. The judges panel hasn't been released yet, so be sure to check back here for more details.

Children's Film Festival

The San Diego International Film Festival has been a highlight in year's past. The event always includes animated and narrative short films and sometimes even a featured film.

The program will include information about filmmaking, animation, and neurodiversity. The event will feature animators and filmmakers who will talk about how kids can get involved making their own films or starting a career in animation or filmmaking.

Portfolio Reviews

If you're an aspiring artist or writer, you'll want to take advantage of portfolio reviews at San Diego Comic-Con 2026. This is a fun and exciting process that's posted at 9:00am daily where you can see the company of the day and requirements to review.

Things to Do at San Diego Comic-Con 2026…WITHOUT a Badge!

Don't have a badge to attend the event in 2026….no problem! Comic-Con is a family-friendly event with plenty to offer those that just come for the atmosphere and non-ticketed events!

Beyond the Exhibit Hall, panel discussions and ticketed events, there will still be a lot you can do. You don't need a badge to experience the energy of Comic-Con - just walking around outside the convention center is a spectacle, thanks to the fans, the costumes, and the pop-up events everywhere you look.

Cosplay Fun for All Ages

Cosplay, or amateurs dressing up as their favorite character in often incredibly impressive costumes, is a yearly highlight for me and my family.

Fans aim to portray a character in every detail. Comic-Con is a magnet for experienced cosplayers and novices alike. No matter how young your kids are, they'll love seeing life-sized comic characters around the exhibition hall.

What are the Top Cosplay Trends for 2026?

Top Cosplay trends for 2026 include "Star Wars", "Daredevil", and "Miles Morales". "Supergirl" and Frieren Cyberpunk's Lucy are also trending.

Not everyone dresses up at Comic-Con, but imagine how much fun kids have if they also attend as their favorite superhero or wizard. No costume is too out of this world when you attend Comic-Con.

Explore the Pop-up Sets

One of my personal favorite parts of the Comic-Con weekend are the pop-up sets! Pop-up sets are interactive walkthroughs of TV show sets that are built just for the Comic-Con event.

Last year, Avatar was popular, as were the Abbot Elementary pop-ups. I'm excited to see what pop-ups are added for the 2026 event. I'm going to keep my eyes open so I can update you here. So far, I'm hearing Funko Fridays and an AMC Walking Dead pop up should be making appearances this year.

2026 Comic-Con Art Show

Comic-Con was founded to pay tribute to comic art's massive contribution to contemporary culture. It encompasses comic books themselves and films, books, anime, and decorative art. Comic-Con San Diego provides a unique opportunity for creators and studios to interact with their most loyal fanbase.

This year you can expect to see original drawings & paintings, jewelry creations, sculptures and even what they call 'unusual' items. 2025 saw more than 800 items sold by the 116 professional and amateur artists and I'd guess this year could be even better!

It's worth noting that the 2026 Comic-Con Art Show will be open to the public, meaning you don't need a badge to enter, enjoy, and even purchase artwork. They're also open one hour after the Exhibit Hall closes on Thursday, Friday and Sunday to make it easier if you do have an attendee badge to view, bid or pick up your artwork.

Will Eisner Industry Awards

For me, the undisputed highlight of the Comic-Con Art Show is always the Will Eisner Industry Awards nominated books and comics they'll have on display.

These are considered the best of the best works of the year so even if you only have a few minutes to pop in, I'd personally recommend you make time to check them out!

Special Events: Around the Convention Center

Throughout Comic-Con week, I can say from personal experience that the energy will absolutely overflow into the Downtown San Diego bars and cafes in the Gaslamp Quarter.

These local establishments will join in the fun with special-themed entertainment and events. So as a local tip, I suggest that you take time to go along, be part of it all, and soak up the atmosphere! There's no better opportunity to spot your favorite off-duty superhero!

Bonus Idea: Visit The Comic-Con Museum in Balboa Park

So, you've decided to join in on this year's comic book fun in San Diego, but what else do you have planned? What about a tour of Downtown San Diego? Or how about a visit to the Comic-Con Museum, a year-round museum in Balboa Park.

The museum features interactive exhibits that are updated regularly as well as movie screenings, panels, and so many other activities. It's a great way to learn more about your favorite comic creation any time of the year!

Explore and Save When You Get a Go City San Diego Pass!

Consider purchasing a Go City San Diego pass before your trip to Comic-Con.

When you visit just two participating attractions per day, like the San Diego Zoo or SeaWorld San Diego, you can save up to 50% off standard admission prices. Since Comic-Con is in the heart of Downtown San Diego, it's in a great location to spend a day or two exploring when you're not at the convention.

Directions & Parking Information

There are a number of ways to get to the San Diego Convention Center including taking the San Diego Trolley (by far my #1 recommendation), the COASTER commuter train, a bike or scooter, catching a San Diego rideshare such as Uber or Lyft, or driving in by yourself.

Let's take a deeper look at your options!

Trolley Crossing the Street in the Gaslamp Next to Comic-Con San Diego 2022
Trolley Crossing the Street in the Gaslamp Next to Comic-Con San Diego 2022

My #1 Choice: Take the MTS Trolley Service

Let me tell you from experience, taking the San Diego Trolley to the convention center is the best way to get in and out of the action!

Look out for the Special Event Line train from places like Pacific Beach and La Jolla which will run more direct and cut down on the need to transfer. The special line will run every 15 minutes from Thursday until Sunday from UC San Diego Blue Line stations between Balboa Avenue and Santa Fe Depot. It will then continue along the Green Line path between Santa Fe Depot and 12th & Imperial.

I recommend that you get on or off the train at the convention center or Gaslamp Quarter stations and walk from there. These two stops are across from Hall A (Convention Center Station at Harbor Drive and First Ave.) and near Hall D (Gaslamp Station at Harbor Drive and Fifth Ave.).

As a local tip, if those stations are too busy for your liking, you could also walk up to the 12th and Imperial station and get on from there!

How Much are Comic-Con Day Trolley Tickets & How Do I Get Them?

The best way to ride is with a PRONTO pass which you can get through the app or at the station for a $2.50 fee. Updated 2026 prices for Comic-Con day pass prices have not been released yet. Below are the 2025 prices and we're expecting similar for 2026.

  • 2-Day Pass – $10
  • 3-Day Pass – $13
  • 4-Day Pass – $16
  • 5-Day Pass – $20

Take the COASTER

If you're headed in from a bit further away, say the Oceanside neighborhood in North County, taking the COASTER commuter train is the way to get to Comic-Con.

The train makes eight stops before stopping at Santa Fe Depot in Downtown San Diego. From there it's easy to take the Trolley or if you're feeling good, the walk is just under a mile and should take you a bit less than 30 minutes!

Can I Drive to Comic-Con

While you can drive to Comic-Con and try to find parking at one of the many parking decks in the area, finding open space will be tough and it will likely be expensive.

It's not the best idea unless you're staying at one of the hotels in the area. But if you really want to drive, here is a look at the driving directions:

Driving Directions to the San Diego Convention Center

Whichever way you're coming from, you will want to hop onto I-5 north or south. Take the 17th Street exit off of the freeway into Downtown San Diego.

If you're traveling on I-5 south:

After taking the 17th Street exit, you will need to turn right onto Imperial Avenue. Take another right onto 12th Avenue from where you will take a left onto J Street.

If you are traveling on I-5 north:

After taking the 17th Street exit, you will take an immediate left onto J Street.

From J Street, you will take a left onto Fourth Avenue. You will come to a 'T' where you will need to turn left. After that, take a right onto Fifth Avenue to see the convention center straight ahead!

Will Harbor Drive Be Closed During Comic-Con?

Harbor Drive between First Avenue and Park Boulevard is typically completely closed to all forms of vehicular traffic including bikes and scooters during Comic-Con so that everyone can have a safe and secure experience. ADA mobility devices will be allowed.

If it's set up like the 2025 event, below will be the planned closure dates and times:

  • Wednesday, July 22, 2026 (Preview Night) - 2:00pm – 10:00pm

If you have a valid parking pass for the Ace Parking garage under the convention center, you will be allowed to drive through.

Parking Information

Comic-Con has a parking lottery system that gives you access to numerous parking lots that are within walking distance of the convention center. Last year, the lottery ended on May 27th, so we assume it will end around the same time this year. Once the lottery is over, there may still be permits left once parking is opened to the general public.

ADA spaces are first-come, first-served. The convention center and Hilton Bay Front are the best choices for ADA parking.

Additional Parking Options

We compiled a few of our favorite parking lots in terms of distance to the convention center and price. We can't confirm that there will be spaces available on event days and prices may vary as well.

  • 289 6th Ave. - 6th and K Parkade: Event prices. 6-minute walk
  • 614 Market St. - Park it on Market: Event prices. 12-minute walk
  • 501 West Broadway: Rates TBA, 18-minute walk
  • 1098 Columbia St.: Rates TBA, 20-minute walk

Local Tips & FAQs About 2026 San Diego Comic-Con

Convention Center Do's and Dont's

Below are some Comic-Con policies that you'll want to be aware of before you arrive.

  • Have your badge on you at all times.
    • Your badge will have an RFID sticker attached with your day or 4-day paper name badge. When you go into various parts of the convention center, Hall H, and the Indigo Ballroom at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel, you'll see signs gates to "SCAN HERE". You'll need to tap your badge. Once you get the green light, you're in! When you leave you have to tap your badge out so you can re-enter when you return. You could be denied re-entry if you don't!
  • Get there early to avoid lines because it gets packed in there!
  • Wear comfy shoes because you will do a ton of walking.
  • No handcarts, trolleys, rolling luggage, or oversized strollers are allowed in the Exhibit Hall.
  • No live-streaming or recording of any event is allowed.
  • Only service animals are allowed, all other pets have to stay home.
  • No alcoholic beverages are allowed in the convention center.

Will There Be Exclusive Merchandise at 2026 San Diego Comic-Con?

Yes! Each year offers new swag and while the details are still being ironed out, I am hearing that we can expect some pretty cool exclusive merchandise for 2026.

Keep an eye for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Sketch Turtles Scale Action Figures. These are different from others because they are designed by artist Ciro Nieli, featuring black-and-white deco design that resembles a sketchbook.

DC comics Batman clothed action figures are also expected to be up for grabs. I would also keep my eye on Jada Toys because they are rumored to be offering "Invincible" and "Ultra Street Fighter II" action figures.

Be Yourself and Be Respectful

Don't be afraid to be yourself! At the San Diego Comic Convention, all personalities will be welcomed with open arms! Remember to wait in line and be kind to one another.

Soak in the unique atmosphere, as the good-humored crowd enjoys over 700+ comic-themed exhibitions and events. The peculiar and extraordinary are more than welcome - and they'll be out in force!

Also, remember that celebrities are people too! If you see them eating with their families, wait for a better time to go up and chat with them. Unless, of course, they invite you to eat with them.

Have a Blast!

Comic-Con is all about fun! Dress up as your favorite superhero or character! Take lots of pictures and make some friends. This event only happens once a year, so embrace the moment.
