Love is in the Air in 2026!

Valentine's Day is just around the corner! I know many of you may be looking for a new way to spend some time with your significant other on this very special day. I usually celebrate with the important person in my life with a romantic meal or by enjoying a fun activity together.

San Diego's mild winter weather averages mid-60s for highs and 50s for lows in February, which I think is just perfect for celebrating your love in 2026. It opens the door for outdoor and indoor activities, and in this town, there's plenty of options for both!

A Variety of Things to Do

While there's nothing wrong with the classic dinner and a movie, it's good to know that San Diego offers a wide variety of fun, exciting, and even unique things to do for Valentine's Day weekend.

So when it came time for our team at Go Visit San Diego to sit down and discuss our favorite Valentine's Day activities for couples, we left no stone unturned! We made sure to include our favorite restaurants and fun things to do at different price points. Our goal was to provide enough options so that everyone could find something that worked for them.

And if you've seen our 'ways to celebrate Valentine's Day in San Diego' list in past years, know that more than half of our list is brand new for our 2026 edition! This year we decided to add more unique and interactive activities while being sure to still include our favorite romantic dinner spots as well.

Stay the Night

We introduced our 'stay the night' feature in 2025, adding a recommended hotel near each item on our list. That tradition continues in 2026, with many new locally recommended places to stay. So if you want to turn a romantic dinner or sunset cruise into an overnight date or weekend together, we've got you covered!

And if you'd like even more hotel recommendations from our team, perhaps our favorite hotels near the San Diego Zoo in Balboa Park, favorite hotels in Downtown San Diego, or even the premier places to stay in the seaside neighborhood of La Jolla, check out those articles for even more options!

1) Enjoy a Romantic Dinner at Callie

Neighborhood: East Village
Address:
1195 Island Ave, San Diego, CA 92101
Availability: Open Tuesday through Sunday, 5:00pm -10:00pm
Cost: Offers a special 5-course Valentine’s Day meal February 13th -15th for $145 per person + tax and tip

Located in the heart of the East Village, one of San Diego's most charming neighborhoods, Callie is one of our team's favorite destinations for Mediterranean food in the city. I personally love going there with my family and think it's the perfect way to kick off our Valentine's Day list for 2026!

We've enjoyed many of the dishes and can even recommend some of the more exotic ones like the Mediterranean Octopus and Grilled Lamb Merguez Dolmas.

And it's not just me who loves this restaurant. With chef Travis Swikard at the helm, an incredible talent who's immersed himself in various Mediterranean culinary cultures, the restaurant has been recognized by the Michelin Guide as one of the Best New Restaurants in America.

Featured as part of our Complete Guide to All the Holiday's in San Diego, our founder Todd told me that many locals think this is the #1 restaurant in San Diego at the moment. He said he'd even put his money on it and made reservations to enjoy a special Valentine's meal there with his wife!

Why It Made Our List

The reason we put El Callie on our list goes beyond the exquisite food, which honestly would have been reason enough. We also love that the restaurant is offering a Valentine's Day special in 2026.

The 5-course meal will include your choice of spreads and breads, starters, pasta, mains, and end with something romantically sweet. FYI, I would choose the chocolate lava cake every time. You'll want to make a reservation in advance to ensure you get a table.

Where To Stay: Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites San Diego Old Town

If you'd like to make a night out of your romantic dinner at Callie in the East Village, I'd recommend a stay at the Fairfield Marriott Inn & Suites in Old Town.

The property offers clean and contemporary rooms and suites plus seasonal savings and packages. Amenities include a fitness center, an on-site laundry, and a convenience store.

Located about a 10 to 15 minute drive from the restaurant and just north of the San Diego International Airport (SAN), the hotel is one of my family's favorite staycation destinations and a perfect hotel for Valentine's Day weekend.

2) Dead Man's Party - Oingo Boingo/Danny Elfman at the Belly Up Tavern

Neighborhood: Solana Beach
Address:
143 Cedros Ave, Solana Beach, CA 92075
Availability: February 14th, 8:00pm showtime (doors at 7:00pm)
Cost: $28 in advance, $31 day of show, reserved loft: $49 (sold out)

If you're looking for something unique to do this Valentine's Day, a concert at one of my favorite music venues in San Diego, the Belly Up Tavern, could be a fun event to attend.

Featured as part of our latest edition of the Complete Guide to All the Holiday's in San Diego, Dead Man's Party, an 80's Underground theme show will feature a Danny Elfman/Oingo Boingo cover band comprised of Orange County and San Diego's most talented musicians. With a vocalist often nicknamed "Danny Elfman, Jr", you are sure to get an authentic sound.

The band has played several shows since their first performance in 2001, and each has been a resounding success. Even Oingo Boingo's founder, Richard Elfman, said he "officially Elfo-approves them." The concert is sure to be a Valentine's Day treat.

Note that there is a $8.30 service charge added for online or phone purchases but tickets are available 'fee free' at the box office as well.

Why It Made Our List

We were looking for unique Valentine's Day activities beyond the norm and a concert seemed to fit the bill!

In addition to the upbeat music, you'll also get to enjoy the atmosphere of the Belly Up Tavern, a venue that has been around since 1974. A casual establishment with a bar menu and plenty of drink options, it quickly earned a reputation as a 'dating bar' catering to young couples.

While it's a music venue at heart, you can do way more than just enjoy the band. You can play pool on the red felt-covered pool table, emphasizing the Valentine's Day theme, play chess or checkers on the checkered table, or play the first-ever Pong game in California.

And if you like to eat like me, the tavern has Polish sausage sandwiches and pickled eggs on its early menu that are delicious!

Where to Stay: Winners Circle Resort

The 3-star Winners Circle Resort is our choice for before or after the concert. Conveniently located just over a mile from the Belly Up Tavern, the property is named for its close proximity to the Del Mar Racetrack.

The guest rooms are clean and spacious, with some featuring two full bathrooms, a kitchenette, and balconies or patios. Amenities include a heated outdoor pool, spa, gym, barbecue areas, fire pits, on-site bars and a restaurant.

  • Availability: Monday through Friday from 3:00pm to 10:00pm | Saturday and Sunday from 1:00pm to 11:00pm

If you're looking for something a little different this year, consider taking a relaxing and romantic 50 minute Venetian gondola ride with your sweetheart through the canals of Coronado Cays on the beautiful San Diego Bay.

Meeting your gondolier in Coronado, you'll board an authentic gondola imported from Venice, Italy and set out on your romantic adventure. You'll have the option to add special extras like a bouquet of roses, mandolin accompaniment, a carefully curated bottle of wine, or celebratory bubbly.

There are different cruise packages to choose from this Valentine's Day, so be sure to make your reservations early!

Why It Made Our List

The gondolas are really authentic, and I think this is about as romantic a gondola experience as you can get in San Diego!

Something a little different than the classic dinner for two, you'll be able to enjoy a gentle, relaxing cruise through the Coronado Cays in this unforgettable, one-of-a-kind experience.

Where To Stay: Hotel del Coronado, Curio Collection by Hilton

The very romantic and historical Hotel del Coronado offers guests modern luxury and classic Victorian architecture with miles of white sand right out its back doors.

With a fancy spa, walking tours of the neighborhood, and plenty to do near the hotel, you may just want to plan a full weekend stay!

Cost: Free

If you're looking for a budget-friendly Valentine's Day date idea, I completely understand. How about a FREE relaxing picnic with your loved one at Balboa Park!

With plenty of public and private seating across the grassy areas for you to choose from, Balboa Park is perfect for enjoying a romantic meal together.

If you forget the most important part of your picnic - the FOOD - just head over to The Market Place where you can choose from ready-to-eat side salads, pasta salads, and custom sandwiches.

Balboa Park even offers a few places where you can BYOA (Bring Your Own Alcohol) and let loose with your significant other between noon and 8:00pm. But do know that glass isn't allowed!

Why It Made Our List

I love the abundance of grassy places, which makes it easy to find a spot to sit and relax for your picnic.

The East Lawn is one of the best locations for a picnic - there's shade, the koi pond, and you can BYOA! And of course, I always want to include an option that is a bit gentler on the budget.

Where To Stay: Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina

The Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina delivers superb views of the Downtown San Diego skyline and beautiful San Diego Bay. It's clean and modern, making it perfect for a romantic weekend.

The Provisional Kitchen in the Pendry San Diego offers a one-of-a-kind signature, airy restaurant and boutique experience in San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter.

Our founder Todd recently took his wife for their 2025 Chefsgiving event. He said he especially loved the fresh, local ingredients and lush greenhouse setting with indoor dining and an al fresco patio.

Open for breakfast and lunch daily and dinner for special events, I can say that a meal at Provisional Kitchen feels like a luxury experience. Some of my favorites menu items include the S'mores French toast, wood-fired pizzas, and antipasti. While the restaurant can be great for the whole family, it can also make for the perfect romantic dinner location to celebrate Valentine's Day.

Why It Made Our List

The Provisional Kitchen offers one of the most luxurious fine dining experiences in all of San Diego.

For Valentine's Day, Executive Chef Brandon Sloan will be offering a five-course prix fixe menu. You can expect a lobster roll first course, a braised pork cheek second course, a pasta rollatini third course, a pan seared striped sea bass, beef wellington, or stuffed Napa cabbage main or fourth course, and strawberry en robe dessert or fifth course.

This company gives tours throughout San Diego, so if you enjoy this one as much as we have, be sure to check out some of their other options as well. I've personally been on two of their tours and really enjoyed them both!

Why It Made Our List

You'll notice that our team was looking for activities for couples and even groups of friends for our 2026 ways to celebrate Valentine's Day in San Diego article and what better way than with some history, a few tacos, and a little San Diego history!

We also thought that this tour was ideal for couples on a Valentine's first date because there are tons of natural conversation starters, although, with all the activity, you won't feel pressured to keep the conversation going.

Where To Stay: Hotel Indigo San Diego-Gaslamp Quarter by IHG

The Hotel Indigo located just a few blocks from Petco Park is a San Diego classic I personally really enjoy before or after concerts or baseball games.

Did you know that sweets are often associated with love because they light up reward circuits in the brain. Sharing sweets with someone creates an intimate, memorable interaction.

I really like that this tour starts in the morning and afternoon, departing at 9:00am or 12:00pm on Valentine's Day and the days before and after as well.
