Del Mar Horse Races Summer Season 2026: Excitement Awaits!

Mission Tower at Del Mar FairgroundsRace Track at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club

The Del Mar Horse Racing Summer Season 2026 is right around the corner and my family is getting really excited! The season will be jam-packed with world-class races, higher stakes, and trackside events seemingly every weekend that I can only describe as a kind of 'Las Vegas casino energy that's fun and appropriate for the entire family'.

Think Pacific Ocean breezes, sun-drenched grandstands, and an energy of anticipation as the season full of events kicks into full gear!

I tell my friends and family that next to San Diego's Summer Concerts & Outdoor Music Festivals, the horse races are my other personal summer favorite. If they've never been before I let them know that the excitement of the races is well worth an evening of entertainment. Our team at Go Visit San Diego loves the races so much that we featured them in our list of the Most Fun Things to Do in San Diego.

And with that, let's dive into everything you'll 'want and need' to know for your summer visit to the Del Mar Horse Races!

What is the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club?

The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club (DMTC), 'where the turf meets the surf', is the home to San Diego's most exciting horse races as well as trackside events, family-friendly festivities, incredible dining, and energy and action you just have to experience for yourself to fully understand!

Located at 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd, Del Mar, California 92014 adjacent to the San Diego County Fairgrounds, which of course hosts one of my family's favorite annual events, the San Diego County Fair, the track lights up for family-friendly fun that offers a lot more than just horse racing!

When is the 2026 Del Mar Horse Racing Summer Season?

The 87th Del Mar Summer Racing season will kick off with an incredible Opening Day celebration on Friday, July 17th and continue for 32 days until Labor Day Monday, September 7th, 2026.

Racing fans will get to see the most famous horses and jockeys compete for some of the most prestigious trophies in the thoroughbred racing world, highlighted by the Pacific Classic, with winnings up to $1,000,000!

When is Opening Day?

Opening Day for the 2026 Summer Racing season will take place on Friday, July 17th, 2026.

Highlights will include the 'Hat's Contest', inaugural 'Seabiscuit Society Opening Day' experience at the Seabiscuit Skyroom, parties at the Celebrity Grill and Champions Terrace, and 'The Party' at the Seaside Cabana.

After the races you'll be able to check out the 'After Pony Party' at Rancho Valencia or 'Hags Fest Opening Day Ceremony at the Sound', a new in 2026 concert featuring Solardo!

For a deeper dive into Opening Day 2026, jump down the article to my full month-by-month breakdown of all the special events and activities scheduled for the exciting season ahead!

Are Their Multiple Seasons for Horse Racing?

This is a very common question I get and the quick answer is 'yes', the Del Mar racetrack has two seasons!

In addition to the summer season, there is also a fall season or 'fall meet'. Often called the 'Bing Crosby Season', it will take place for just 24 days in 2026 from Friday, November 6th until Sunday, November 29th.

During the fall, the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club will welcome visitors each Friday, Saturday and Sunday, offering a full schedule of eight or more races per day. Gates generally open at 11:00am with the first post at 12:30pm.

Thanksgiving Day is a special day at the horse racing club offering a unique Thanksgiving Day brunch, a fantastic event for the entire family. With the first post set for 11:00am.

We'll focus primarily on the Del Mar Summer Season 2026 here but if you're interested in the Del Mar Horse Races Fall Season 2026 our team at Go Visit San Diego put together a full guide for those fun events set for later this year as well!

What is the History of the Del Mar Racetrack?

Horse racing was big business in the 1930's. William A. Quigley of La Jolla who had previously opened the Santa Anita Park horse racing track in Arcadia, California in 1934 pitched the idea for a horse racing track to American singer, entertainer and actor Bing Crosby who lived at the time in Rancho Santa Fe. Together they founded the Del Mar Turf Club, later known as the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, on May 6th, 1936!

The racetrack itself opened its doors to the public on the 340-acre site on the Del Mar Fairgrounds, 20 miles north of Downtown San Diego on July 3rd, 1937 with Bing Crosby in attendance to welcome the fans.

Who Built the Del Mar Racetrack?

Crosby, a huge racing fan and local, pulled together his list of Hollywood friends and investors who ultimately came together to build the venue. The Del Mar Racetrack was built in partnership with an incredible list of well-known celebrities and businessmen.

Credit is given to singer, actor and entertainer Bing Crosby; Hollywood's 'Irishman in Residence', actor Pat O'Brien; comedian, singer, pianist and actor Jimmy Durante; prominent automotive businessman and thoroughbred racehorse owner Charles S. Howard; and silent film actor and comedian from the double act, Laurel and Hardy, Oliver Hardy!

A History of Hollywood A-Listers

The Club's connection with Hollywood is still evident to this day. Races are named in honor of some of the greatest names in Tinsel Town - such as the Bob Hope Stakes and the Cecil B. de Mille Stakes, among others.

These races are annual favorites that personally take me back to a time that I only know from the stories of my parents and grandparents. I wonder what those early years must have been like and I want to share that history with my family today!

A Tradition of Legendary Horses

The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club has a proud tradition, with some of the greatest horse racing icons competing at its events. Among many equine stars, in 1938, Seabiscuit, perhaps the most famous racehorse of all time, beat his rival and Bing's horse Ligatori by a nose, after a nail-biting battle at the track.

His courage provided a symbol of hope during the Great Depression, and his feat was later immortalized in the Hollywood movie of the same name. The Seabiscuit Stakes, one of the most popular races at the track, makes sure that his memory and spirit live on.

A Community Collaboration

The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club was officially founded in 1968 by notable California owners, breeders, and community leaders. Their main goal was to conduct a first-class horse racing meet each summer at Del Mar on its fairgrounds.

Today, your entire family is welcome to get up close to the magnificent horses and bet on their favorites. In recent years 47,000+ spectators have attended each season, with the highest handle (total value of all bets placed in one day) reaching $116,686,320!

Tickets, Pricing, Memberships & More!

Entrance to the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club

One of the things I really like about the Del Mar Racetrack is that there are always several choices when it comes to admission.

Whether you want to enjoy the races from a trackside dining table while enjoying delicious eats or catch the races from the second level of the Stretch Run, there are options for every desire and budget.

How Do I Buy Tickets for the Summer Del Mar Horse Races?

While tickets can be purchased onsite at the box office, it's recommended that you get your tickets in advance through their official website.

The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club has once again partnered with SeatGeek for their official ticket sales in 2026.

Note that you'll need a SeatGeek account to secure your tickets online. The good news is that an account is easy and free to create!

Ticket Prices

You'll find that ticket prices will vary depending on the day you want to attend and where you prefer to sit.

In a stroke of good fortune, 2026 ticket prices did not increase for most race days.

General Admission:

  • Opening Day: $73
  • Regular Season: $11
  • Pacific Classic Day: $11

Stretch Run or Clubhouse Reserved Seating:

  • Opening Day: $98 - $1051

Tickets for Kids

I have two growing teenagers and while I feel like everything just seems to get more and more expensive these days, I'm happy to share that kids 17 & under will receive free admission to the track as long as they are accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Discounted grandstand seating will also be available for children 17 and younger.

Tickets for Active & Retired Military

Active and retired military members and their dependents can receive free general admission daily with a valid military I.D. as long as tickets are available. Just bring your I.D. to the Stretch Run gate and you're in!

Questions & the Ticket Office

If you have questions, your best bet is to contact the ticket office directly at (858) 792-4242 or by email at [email protected]. Do know that ticket prices are subject to change.

During the 2026 Summer Season, the ticket office will be open from 9:00am – 1:00pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 9:00am – 5:00pm on Thursday through Sundays, and closed on Mondays.

Before the season starts, the ticket office hours will be 9:00am – 5:00pm Monday through Friday and closed on weekends.

The Diamond Club

Racing fans are invited to take advantage of the free Del Mar Thoroughbred Club's Diamond Club Discount, which is an amazing deal for repeat visitors!

With a Diamond Club card, you'll receive 50% off general admission tickets throughout the 2026 Summer Season. That means a regular $10 ticket is cut down to just $5, and you can still enjoy great seats with incredible views of the action!

Diamond Club members also will receive access to special promotions throughout the summer including free admission, $5 Michelob Ultras, sodas, and hotdogs every 'Free and Easy' Thursday, 25% off all Del Mar Signature Drinks and select beers from gates open until 4:00pm every Friday beginning July 24th, plus attendance rewards and more!

The Turf Club Membership

I think a Turf Club Membership is the ultimate way to truly experience all that the Del Mar horse races have to offer.

Members will receive access to exclusive Turf Club areas and amenities for both racing seasons including the Turf Club Lounge which offers wagering, food & beverage service, a special Turf Club Parking Pass, and level four Turf Club table reservations.

Members can also bring friends with the purchase of guest passes, available from just $20 for Thursday or Sunday races and up to $150 for the Opening Day festivities.

Applications are available online. Prices are $1,220 for a single and $1,720 for a family. There's also a 'Junior membership' level, but you'll need to contact the ticket office to learn more about this option's full details and pricing.

Incredible Dining Options

Whether you want to go fancy with trackside dining or are just looking for simple concessions, the Del Mar Racetrack will offer an option that will meet your needs.

Trackside Dining

Part of the fun for me and my wife is grabbing a meal and one of the club's eight featured cocktails like the Del Margarita or Summer Breeze as we sit in comfort and watch the races with Trackside Dining Seating.

There are multiple options for dining, including the First Turn Restaurant, Clubhouse Terrace Restaurant, Il Palio, Stretch Run Grill, Veranda Café, Space Dust Celebrity Grill, and Pacifico Porch. Prices start at $75 and vary by date and table size.

Concessions

When I take my kids along, we're often just looking for simple concessions.

If you're like us, then you'll be pleased to hear that the Del Mar racetrack features burgers and fries, pizza, carved sandwiches, lobster rolls, tacos and my personal favorite, hand-packed ice cream, all spread through the venue.

Local Tips
Arrive Early for Best Parking & Seating
Locals know to arrive at least 30-45 minutes before first post, especially on popular days like Opening Day or Pacific Classic. This ensures better parking spots, time to explore dining options, and a chance to watch horses warm up in the paddock before placing your bets.

Exploring the Trackside Racing Experience

Between July and September each summer, the nation's top racehorses, trainers, and jockeys compete for triumph in the Southern Californian sunshine! There's little more guaranteed to get your heart pumping than watching your chosen filly hurtling along the turf, past the rest of the field towards the winning post.

Let's have a look at the exciting races ahead, what you can expect from a trackside experience, how to bet on the races and more!

Grand Stands at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club
Grand Stands at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club

The Grand Stands and Racetrack

When you arrive, you'll instantly be welcomed into the 6-story grand stands. There you'll find a variety of seating options including Clubhouse and Stretch Run boxes, Stretch Run reserved seating, Suites, Turf Club tables, and sixth floor Skyrooms.

You'll be treated to dining options from the Seaside Tropical Cabana on the ground floor to the Il Palio Restaurant on the sixth floor. On each floor, you'll also find plenty of places to grab a coffee or snacks.

The Del Mar racetrack itself is exactly 1 mile (1.609 km) long, so there will be plenty of room to get close to the action. It's worth noting that if you buy a General Admission ticket, you won't have a grand stand seat. However, you will have access to walk around and stand along the racetrack below the grand stands.

What is the Schedule for Summer Horse Racing Events in 2026?

Multiple races will take place most Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays during the 2026 summer season.

A full calendar of 2026 summer races and events is available on the club's official website. There are also a few standout races held each year that are especially exciting.

What Time is the First Post for the Races?

First post for 2026 summer meet races will primarily be at 2:00pm for all race days. This is an update from the 2025 season when the first post on most Fridays was at 4:00pm.

The exception to this schedule will be over the closing weekend which runs from September 5th through Labor Day Monday on September 7th. Races will kick-off at 1:30pm on those days.

What are Del Mar's Top Horse Racing Events in Summer 2026?

I would say that all of the races and fanfare on 'Opening Day' qualify as top-level events for the Summer Season.

Beyond Opening Day, the most famous race at Del Mar, the Pacific Classic, is set this year for Saturday, August 22nd, 2026. The Pacific Classic offers a whopping $1,000,000 prize and serves as a qualifier for the equally prestigious Breeders' Cup World Championships later in the year.

Hosted at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club in 2025, the 2026 edition of the Breeders' Cup World Championships is scheduled to be held at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Kentucky on Friday, October 30th and Saturday, October 31st, 2026.

Did the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club Enhance its Two-Year-Old Racing Program?

Yes! New for the 2026 summer season, the racetrack will be offering $100,000 open maiden races for two-year-olds on the main track.

Set for both colts and fillies, this was quite the offseason story! The change is designed to push forward the track's commitment to developing young runners while offering more opportunities for owners, trainers and breeders.

How Do I Bet on the Horse Races During the Summer 2026 Season?

I think a lot of the fun of going to the Del Mar Racetrack is picking your favorite horse and making a bet or two! You can use handicapping, the free program at the track or other tools to assist, or you can just go with a hunch and pick the filly with the best-looking coat!

Let me also say that we highly suggest you bet small, only what you can happily lose, and if you'd rather not place a bet, we completely support that choice!

If you want to place a bet, it's quite easy. Go to the teller window and let them know the following.

  • Which race you want to bet on
  • How much you want to bet
  • And which horse you want to bet on (the horse will have a number on the saddle)

The tellers are very nice and will help you if you don't fully understand. They will then give you a ticket and time to watch the race!

If you have a winning ticket, just take it to a self-service machine to get a voucher to keep betting or to a teller to cash out your winnings!

What Kind of Bets Can I Make at the Del Mar Horse Racetrack?

The simplest three bets are the 'Win', 'Place' and 'Show'. The 'Win' is betting on the horse to 'win' or come in first place. The 'Show' is betting on the horse to come in first or second place. The 'Show' is betting on a horse to come in first, second, or third place.

You can also make 'Exacta', 'Trifecta' and 'Superfecta' as well as bets like the 'Rolling Double' and 'Pick Four' to name a few!

Each comes with odds, generally speaking the more unlikely the bet or the horse, the lower the odds of winning but the higher the payout will be if you win!

Are There Handicappers to Help at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club?

Yes, there are several Handicappers at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club offering you analysis, analytics, and quick picks designed to help you figure out which horses you want to bet on.

Although this information is always subject to change, the featured 2026 independent handicappers are listed below.

  • Brad Free DRF
  • Frank Scatoni
  • Today's Racing Digest
  • Deuce Bruce
  • Dean Keppler
  • California Pick4

Handicapping is essentially calculating advantages in order to provide an equal opportunity for every contestant to win. The handicappers will often take the horse's racing form, breed, and average wins into account.

Monthly Recurring Events

Now that you know about the recurring weekly events, let's go month-by-month and have a look through the one-time special events you can look forward to this summer!

July Events

July gets the party started with arguably the most anticipated event of the season, Opening Day! It also includes one of my favorite events, the Del Mar Tacos & Tequila Festival!

Opening Day 2026

The Del Mar Horse racing Summer Season Opening Day presented by Caesars Sportsbook is scheduled for Friday, July 17th, 2026 with gates opening at 11:30am.

I can tell you from friends that make attending an annual tradition that Opening Day is by far the most popular event at the Del Mar Racetrack! The attendees go all out as the women get dressed up in dresses and big hats and the men in their Sunday's finest attire.

Opening Day is famous for the big hats many women wear as part of their outfits. To celebrate, the club holds an 'Opening Day Hats Contest' featuring categories like Most Glamorous, Best Racing Theme, Best Flowers, and Best Fascinator.

In addition to the 'Hats Contest', you can also look forward to the Champions Terrace offering premium seating overlooking the paddock and Pacific Ocean and a NEW 2026 'Seabiscuit Society Opening Day' experience at the Seabiscuit Skyroom located on the sixth floor of the grandstand.

The Space Dust Celebrity Grill will once again host a private party, while 'The Party' at the Seaside Cabana presented by Pacifico and the official 'After Pony Party' at Rancho Valencia will offer a 5-star buffet, welcome cocktail, cash bar, and live music curated by DJ Murphi.

There will also be a brand new 'Hags Fest Opening Day Ceremony at the Sound' concert kicking off at 7:00pm. Attendees will get to hear Solardo as well as Murphy's Law (UK), and special guests Kyle Walker B2B Jordan Brando and JustJoe.

The Del Mar Tacos & Tequila Festival

One of my favorite San Diego tours is the Old Town Tequila and Tacos Walking Tour where guests get a history lesson, tacos, and tequila!

The Saturday, July 18th 'Del Mar Tacos & Tequila Festival' is pretty awesome too! For $60 you'll get five drink tickets for specialty tequilas, margaritas, and cervezas and two taco tickets from the best taco shops in San Diego, with admission from 1:00pm until 6:00pm. For $42 you'll get five drink tickets and admission from 2:00pm until 6:00pm.

Family Fun Day

The first of two 'Family Fun Days' will take place this season on Sunday, July 26th, 2026.

Scheduled for 12:30pm until 5:30pm at the Seaside Cabana, kids can expect face painting, trampolines, a game zone, rock climbing wall, Pony Boy Mascot Meet & Greet, and my personal favorite food trucks!

Jockey Photo Day

Sunday, July 26th will also be a day to shake hands, chat, and grab a picture with the jockeys who ride the world's fastest thoroughbreds.

Set for the Plaza De Mexico from 12:30pm until 1:30pm, 'Jockey Photo Day' will be a family-friendly event you won't want to miss.

August Events

During August, the racetrack will host a full month of events celebrating art, food, and fun highlighted by the Pacific Classic race at the end of the month! Let's have a look at what else August has to offer!

Uncorked: Del Mar Wine Fest

Each week in August will offer a special event starting on Saturday, August 1st where the racetrack will play host to the return of the very popular 'Uncorked: Del Mar Wine Fest'.

The 7th annual event will once again feature more than 100 wines, food pairing, and a live DJ. Tickets for the 2026 event are $83.99 for admission from 2:00pm until 5:00pm or $99.81 to get in an hour earlier starting at 1:00pm. Your ticket will include racetrack admission. You can use the discount code 'DMTC26' to save $10.

As a local tip, if you love wine like many of my friends, don't miss the Del Mar Wine + Food Festival 2026 which is scheduled for a few weeks after the summer season ends on September 30th until October 4th, 2026.

Turf & Surf Fest (NEW in 2026)

Set for Saturday, August 8th, 2026 from 1:00pm until 6:00pm at the Seaside Cabana, the inaugural 'Surf & Turf Festival' should be an event that's both delicious and entertaining.

Your $40 ticket will get you entry as well as five drink tasters, this time including specialty cocktails, wine and even craft beers. You'll then have the chance to add a lobster feast to your ticket which will land you 1.25lb lobster, plus a plate of the summer fixings.

To ensure your lobster feast is onsite, it's highly recommended that you pre-order online. The lobster feast will cost you an additional $49 per person.

Taste of New Orleans

Saturday August 15th will be 'New Orleans Day' at the Del Mar Racetrack! The Seaside Cabana will host the Mardi Gras-themed special event from 1:00pm until 6:00pm.

Your $40 ticket will include five drink tickets and live Cajun music. Your kids will enjoy a mini parade, the Rad Hatter, and bead vendors. You'll be able to try special drinks like hurricanes, frozen daiquiris, and Abita beer. Authentic Cajun cuisine will be available for purchase including gumbo, jambalaya, po'boys, beignets, and more!

2026 Pacific Classic Race Day

The 2026 Pacific Classic is set for Saturday, August 22nd, 2026 and will likely be the biggest true race day of the summer racing season!

Complete with a $1,000,000 purse, the race which draws the top Thoroughbreds to Del Mar automatically qualifies the winner for the fall meets Breeders' Cup World Championships.

Gates will open at 12:00pm with the first race scheduled for 2:00pm with a full slate of exciting action on the track. You can also look forward to some high-intensity betting during the Pacific Classic Betting Challenge, a real highlight for sporting men and women on that day!

College Day

The annual 'College Day' event at the racetrack is set for Saturday, August 29th, 2026. This season it will include free admission for Diamond Club members with a valid student I.D., access to Grand Stand seating, and a free $2 bet & tip sheet.

September Events

As the summer season draws to a close, let's have a look at what September has to offer!

BBQ & Beer Fest (NEW in 2026)

Set for Saturday, September 5th, 2026 from 12:30 until 5:30 at the Seaside Cabana, a 'BBQ & Beer Fest' ticket will include five drink vouchers and entry into the races, plus live music and DJs. Tickets are $40 per person.

Local pitmasters and restaurants will also be onsite offering savory, smokey BBQ for purchase.

Family Fun Day

The second 'Family Fun Day' of the 2026 summer season will all but get us to the end of the season which will officially conclude the following day.

Another incredible day for families at the racetrack, kids can once again enjoy face painting, trampolines, a game zone, rock climbing wall, and a Pony Boy Mascot Meet & Greet. The event is scheduled for 12:30pm until 5:30pm at the Seaside Cabana.

Summer Season Closing Day

Labor Day Monday, September 7th will be the last day of the season to enjoy the races and all action. The track will include payouts for all wagers on this day which means everyone is a winner!

2026 Parking Rates

The 2026 parking rates are $15 per vehicle ($20 on Opening Day). If you want preferred parking, it is $25 ($35 on Opening Day). It is also important to note that re-entry is not allowed when you leave the facility.

Many people have recommended valet parking because it's much more manageable. For valet on Opening Day, it costs $50, and $35 for all other regular racing days.

Summer Racing Season FAQs

At this point I sure hope you're getting excited about the Del Mar Horse Race Summer Season!

Let me share a few more tips about things I think you should know and how to plan your trip to the racetrack!

How Do I Plan a Trip to Del Mar for the Summer Horse Races?

After all that you've read so far, if you're thinking about visiting the Del Mar Racetrack this summer you've almost got what you need. Here's my quick checklist for preparing your trip.

  • Explore the trackside events & decide on the best day to attend such as Opening Day, during the Pacific Classic, over Labor Day Weekend, or on another day.
  • Buy your tickets (preferably in advance).
  • Decide how you want to get to the racetrack.
  • Explore the dining options.
  • Look over the trackside events.
  • Select and book a hotel near the track (for out-of-town guests or those looking to make a weekend trip out of it).

That's my quick cheat sheet checklist, most of which we've covered above. The one we haven't covered is Del Mar area hotels. Let me give you a few suggestions for beautiful places to stay near the track!

Where to Stay – Near the Del Mar Racetrack

There are an assortment of high-quality hotels located around the Del Mar Racetrack that offer a convenient way to stay close to the season's best races.

My top picks for you include the club's very own hotel, as well as a couple really fantastic resorts within walking distance.

Winners Circle Resort

If you want to fully immerse yourself in the racing state of mind, I suggest that you stay at the recently renovated, 3-star Winners Circle Resort.

The property couldn't be much closer to the racetrack as it's literally across the street! The location makes it incredibly convenient to visit the Del Mar Racetrack in between trips to the beach that's walking distance and under one mile away, and meals at two gourmet onsite restaurants.

The resort is a family-friendly Solana Beach hotel with a heated outdoor pool, hot tub, suites with in-room kitchens, and a rec room clubhouse that our team at go Visit San Diego thinks would be perfect for a family vacation.

Hilton San Diego / Del Mar

Less than half a mile from the Del Mar Racetrack and just over 1 mile from the beach, you'll find another quality option, the Hilton San Diego / Del Mar!

Located off the 405, or San Diego Freeway as you may see it on Google Maps, the hotel offers guests access to onsite upscale dining and drinking experiences as well as room service. I personally appreciate the comfortable outdoor seating and stylish firepits, perfect as the sunsets and temperatures drop a few degrees

Hotel amenities include an outdoor pool, WIFI, fitness and business centers, and both self-parking and valet parking.

L'Auberge Del Mar Resort and Spa

Me and my family love our next hotel choice which is closer to the beach and still just about two miles from the Del Mar Racetrack.

The luxurious 4-star L'Auberge Del Mar Resort and Spa features plenty of ways to relax, from a large menu of spa treatments to beautiful oceanfront views from room balconies.

You can relax in estate-style rooms, dine at the onsite restaurant, have drinks by the ocean-view pool, and spend time at the resort's tennis court and event rooms.

What Family Activities are Available at the Del Mar Horse Races?

Onsite highlights include the mini tram from the parking to the entrance, play area with inflatables, and just watching the races from the grassy area with picnic tables, a family favorite with my kids.

There will also be the two 'Family Fun Days' mentioned above designed to be a day full of excitement for kids.

What Family Activities are Available Near the Del Mar Horse Racetrack?

The track is not far from the beautiful Del Mar beaches, Balboa Park, home to the world-renowned San Diego Zoo, and the Birch Aquarium at Scripps located in nearby La Jolla.

If you're looking for more family-friendly attractions and activities in the area, the best way to take your family to do more for less is with a Go City San Diego pass using discount code GVSD5OFF at checkout.

The pass will include admission to 40+ attractions spread throughout the city including SeaWorld San Diego, LEGOLAND California and the San Diego Natural History Museum all at much cheaper admission prices than advertised.

Is There a Dress Code?

Each section of the Club has a different required dress code. This can include suits or sports jackets for men, and daytime sundresses for women.

Check with the section of the Club you're interested in for the latest dress code details!

Can I Wear Jeans to the Del Mar Racetrack?

Yes, but tailored denim is requested, preferably with a suit or sport jacket. If you want to attend Opening Day, I suggest that you fit the part and dress up!

You won't however want to wear shorts, flip flops, athletic outfits, t-shirts, or ripped, torn, or oversized jeans.
