San Diego has experimented with neighborhood electric shuttles since 2016, when Circuit's FRED began running in Downtown San Diego. Most of those services have now ended, and this section keeps the record of each one, plus the one still running.
Still operating as of September 2026: the gO'side Shuttle in Oceanside, which you request through the Ride Circuit app.
Ended: FRED in Downtown San Diego stopped on July 1, 2025; the Beach Bug in Pacific Beach made its final ride on October 31, 2024; Carlsbad's Good Ride pilot ran through August 31, 2024; and Coronado's Island Express ended on December 4, 2024.
Who Were the Shuttles Meant For?
The easy answer was everyone!
From locals to tourists, business travelers and more, anyone who wanted to leave the car behind could jump aboard, whether they needed a ride to the trolley station or their hotel, had a few drinks and did not want to drive, or would rather not worry about parking.
