Summer Spectacular at SeaWorld San Diego

SeaWorld Fireworks on Mission BayThe Very Fast Manta Ride at Seaworld San Diego

SeaWorld San Diego is one of the most popular attractions in all of San Diego County. After the world-famous San Diego Zoo in Balboa Park, you'll usually find SeaWorld San Diego on any short list of the top attractions in the area.

So, when the SeaWorld San Diego hosts one of its seasonal events like the SeaWorld Summer Spectacular, Howl-O-Scream around Halloween in the fall, or one of my personal favorites, the annual Seven Seas Food Festival held in the spring, you're surely getting more bang for your buck!

SeaWorld San Diego's Summer Spectacular in particular offers guests a series of concerts, nighttime animal experiences, and even a new drone show that I can't wait to tell you about!

What is SeaWorld San Diego Summer Spectacular?

Summer Spectacular at SeaWorld San Diego is the theme park's annual summertime festival that includes special events, entertainment, and a high-energy concert series.

When is the SeaWorld San Diego Summer Spectacular?

SeaWorld San Diego's Summer Spectacular is set to kick off on Memorial Day weekend starting Friday, May 22nd and lasting until Labor Day on Monday, September 7th, 2026.

Featuring extended park hours all summer long, the lineup of activities and concerts is certainly lively and jam-packed!

Why We Think You Should Consider Summer Spectacular

Our founder Todd lives just a few miles from SeaWorld San Diego and knows the park quite well. It's become one of his family's go-to spots when they want to enjoy a laid-back day in San Diego.

During the summer especially, the park tends to strike just the right balance - never uncomfortably crowded, but always lively enough to feel like something's happening. There's plenty of space to stroll around, relax in the shade, and take in the unique atmosphere.

The laid-back energy makes the summer nights feel easy and a little magical - especially when the music gets going and you're watching live music with an ocean breeze in the air!

And if you like 90s or 2000s hip-hop like I do, the Concert Series is always a highlight. Included with park admission, the concert venue has an unmistakable coastal vibe that just works. Watching a show there with the cool breeze coming in makes for a uniquely relaxing summer evening - energetic, but never overwhelming.

Local Tips
Skip the Crowds with Weekday Evening Visits
Locals avoid weekend crowds by visiting on weekday evenings during Summer Spectacular. You'll enjoy shorter lines for rides and shows, plus the park's extended hours mean you can catch the drone display and still experience all the daytime attractions.

Summer Spectacular Entertainment and Extras

The 2026 lineup of special entertainment, nighttime animal experiences, and limited-time food and drink options is the best we've seen offered at the event in some time!

There are quite a few new additions plus many of the returning favorites from years past.

What are the New Shows and Seasonal Offerings for 2026?

SeaWorld is stepping it up a notch in 2026 with a host of new entertainment for the Summer Spectacular event.

All-New Summer Drone Display

Possibly the most anticipated new show of 2026 will be the all-new 'Ocean of Dreams Drone Display' featuring 600 synchronized drones and a soaring soundtrack. I've personally yet to see a drone show, but I've heard they are an incredible experience.

A 12-minute story of marine life showcasing underwater ecosystems, the show will feature displays of sea otters, sharks, and of course majestic orcas, along with an electric neon finale that will celebrate 'hope, wonder and ocean stewardship'.

Kicking off on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 8:45pm starting May 22nd, the show will move to a nightly schedule from June 12th through August 9th. After that date, it will move to a Friday and Saturday only schedule, concluding for the season with two additional shows on Sunday and Monday of Labor Day Weekend on September 6th and 7th.

While the Ocean of Dreams drone show permanently replaced the Enchanted Wonders Fireworks Show, there still will be traditional fireworks on July 4th.

All-New Deep Sea Disco

Also new in 2026, the 'Deep Sea Disco' show at the SkyTower Lawn will feature the always exciting Rhythm of the Reef dancers. Guests will have the chance to learn fun moves that will lead up to one incredible finale.

All-New The Wonders of North American Wildlife

The new 'Wonders of North American Wildlife' presentation at the Mission Bay Theater is one that our entire team at Go Visit San Diego is excited to see.

The presentation will highlight the diverse native wildlife of North America, sharing rescue and rehabilitation stories. The goal of the show is to help guests leave with a deeper appreciation of animals and conservation efforts that SeaWorld San Diego gets involved with to help protect them in the wild.

All-New Dolphin Adventures

While the 'Dolphin Adventures' themselves are not new, the fan-favorite show is making its much anticipated return during Summer Spectacular.

Refreshed and re-energized, even if you've seen it before, there is a reason to return to the Dolphin Amphitheater. Personally, the dolphin show is one of my favorite SeaWorld San Diego attractions.

All-New Shamu's Celebration: Light Up the Night

Another fan favorite returning with an upgrade in 2026, 'Shamu's Celebration: Light Up the Night' at the Orca Stadium will return starting Friday, June 12th with vibrant lighting, choreography, and music to showcase the beauty of killer whales.

All-New Dolphins: Touch the Sky

If you're a dolphin lover like me, then you won't want to miss the All-New 'Dolphins: Touch the Sky' show also kicking off on Friday, June 12th at the Dolphin Amphitheater.

The show will feature bottlenose dolphins, inspiring stories, and a high-energy soundtrack designed to celebrate how dolphins connect with humans…and the world.

All-New Sea Lions Tonite

One more addition to the Summer Spectacular calendar of events kicking off on Friday, June 12th, 'Sea Lions Tonite' will return for the 2026 summer season at the Sea Lion Amphitheater with new twists and surprises from the park's mischievous sea lions.

Always a crowd pleaser, the show is honestly quite funny with pop-culture parodies and animal education.

What Fan Favorite Entertainment is Returning in 2026?

While the list of all-new entertainment for SeaWorld San Diego's Summer Spectacular 2026 is quite long, not everything is new. A number of fan favorites will be making their celebrated return.

BMX Blast! Stunt Show

The very popular BMX Blast! stunt show will be making a return in 2026!

Celebrating the history of extreme sports in Southern California you'll once again get to enjoy bar spins, back flips, and more as you listen to a live band perform pop-punk hits of the late 1990s. The high-energy show will take place at the Nautilus Amphitheater.

Pirates Ahoy! The Battle for Mermaid Cove

Another very popular show returning in 2026 will be 'Pirates Ahoy! The Battle for Mermaid Cove!'

The swashbuckling adventure will once again feature pirates versus mermaids in a stunning display of water stunts and acrobatics. The action-packed adventure show will take place at the Bayside Amphitheater.

Laser Reef Summer Spectacular

As you exit the park it will be impossible to miss the special laser light show set to a thrilling soundtrack. Taking place in front of the SeaWorld Store at park close, the 'Laser Reef Summer Spectacular' show is a perfect way to finish off your SeaWorld San Diego Summer Spectacular experience.

A Menu of Special Summer Favorites

You certainly won't go hungry during SeaWorld's Summer Spectacular! The 2026 event will include a large selection of limited-time offerings, including many brand-new items just introduced for the season.

My personal culinary highlights in past years I also see on this year's menu include the Shrimp Ceviche Tostilocos and Esquite Tostilocos at the Tostilocos Bar located at the SkyTower Lawn and Adobada Tacos and Pollo Asado Ramen at the Taqueria near Manta.

For new items in 2026, I'm excited to try the Cinnamon Sugar Pretzel Bites with Cream Cheese Icing at Pretzel Bites and the Brisket Burnt End Sausage at Smokehouse Bites, both located near Wild Arctic.

And if you're a desert fan like me, be sure to save room. The Turtle Churros at the Churro Bar located near Wild Arctic are squarely on my 2026 radar! For a selection we've personally tested, the Chocolate Abuelita Nachos at Nachos & Tortas located near Manta are out of this world!

Insider Tips

If you want to get good spots for parades and stunt shows, I suggest from personal experience that you arrive early. The best spots are popular. I'd also highly suggest that you arrive early for the concerts as they will absolutely fill up.

As an extra special treat, consider visiting on the Fourth of July. The Fourth of the July celebration at SeaWorld San Diego is one of our favorites in the area!

Park Policies

No outside food is allowed. Don't worry, SeaWorld San Diego has a wide variety of dining options so you won't be hungry!

SeaWorld San Diego is also a cashless venue. Just swipe or tap your credit card, debit card, or smart device with Apple Pay or Google Pay. If you only have cash, you can use one of the cash-to-card kiosks that are located throughout the park where you can transfer your cash, at no cost, into a Visa prepaid debit card that can be used anywhere Visa is accepted.

Watch the Weather

Certain events and attractions depend on the weather including the drone show and Summer Concert series as the Bayside Amphitheater.

San Diego's rainfall amounts in the summer are low so you won't have much to worry about but I still suggest that you check the forecast so you can plan accordingly just in case.
