Experience a Hotel on the Waterfront at Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina

Looking at the Towers from the Pool Area at the Marriott Marquis San Diego MarinaSeating Area in the Large Lobby of the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina

The Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina is a premier hotel in the Downtown San Diego area. Multiple members of our team have been there so we worked together to provide you the details we think you’ll want to know before you book a stay.

We also wanted to go beyond the basics and give you thoughts on why we’d choose the hotel, things to do at the hotel and nearby and just our personal opinions so you can make the right choice about this hotel.

So you don’t miss it, we also did a comparison article - Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina vs Hilton San Diego Bayfront – so check that out as well.

An Impressive Hotel

Enjoy all the conveniences and comfort of a large resort without missing any of the city action when you book your stay at Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina. This property has everything you need, and in the Embarcadero San Diego, you won’t have to go far to find fun things to do.

When you arrive at the property, with its two large towers taking their place in the city’s skyline, you’ll be impressed at the attention to detail and commitment to customer service. The bilingual front desk staff make check-in a cinch, and the concierge staff are happy to assist you with reservations, tour arrangements, and any other need you may have.

The modern, tasteful décor and impressive amenities of the rooms and suites make guests feel right at home. You can slip into a plush bathrobe, catch up on work tasks at the desk, or just gaze at the city, pool or water view outside your window.

With so much to offer, this resort on the waterfront is also ideal as an event space with multiple rooms available for rental.

Whether you are traveling solo, coordinating a work conference, or taking a family vacation, you can’t go wrong when you stay at the San Diego Marriott Marquis!

Marriott Bonvoy Members

We’re all big travelers on our team and understand brand loyalty. If you're loyal to Marriott, then you’re probably a Marriott Bonvoy Traveler. It’s always worth checking if the hotel has any special offers, which can be done before or even after booking.

Also, customer service and quality are pillars of Marriott’s around the world. Don’t be afraid to make special requests as the staff will do all they can to make sure you have a pleasant stay.

I can make these claims with confidence as if you can believe it, I’m writing this article from a Marriott rooftop pool.

Local Tips
Prime Location!
The Marriott Marquis San Diego has everything you need, and with its prime location in Embarcadero San Diego, you won’t have to go far to find fun things to do. From activities to dining to comfortable rooms, the Marriott is a destination on its own.

Why You Should Consider the Marriott Marquis?

Going beyond the basics is my goal here so let’s have a look at why you should consider this hotel when comparing it to other nearby hotels in its class.

A Great Location

The hotel’s prime location is one of my favorite aspects. I could see the San Diego Bay from my room, and I liked how close I was to Seaport Village too.

There’s no shortage of things to do on hotel grounds either! The property has fitness and biking trails, and nearby, you can go bowling, golfing, and sightseeing.

Food & Drinks

Head downstairs for a cocktail or craft beer at one of the four bars and lounges on site, and plan on trying each of the restaurants during your stay.

You can choose from American cuisine, Asian fusion, or Mexican fare, and there’s even a snack shop and Starbucks for a quick grab-and-go option.

A full breakfast buffet is available every morning, and of course, you can always order room service.

I also enjoyed the restaurants around the hotel, with one of my favorites being Puesto at the Headquarters which serves delicious Mexican food. In addition there are plenty of food and drink tours around the nearby Gaslamp Quarter; the Brothels, Bites, and Booze Tour is my recommendation for you!

Private Marina, Spa & Outdoor Pool

When it comes to finding things to do, the San Diego Marriott Marquis is a winner on all fronts. The resort has a private marina with jet skis and kayaks, a 24-hour gym with complimentary fitness classes, two beautiful heated pools, a hot tub, and a full-service day spa, The Hideaway.

During my visit, I spent a lot of time at the swimming pool area thanks to the relaxing, tropical atmosphere. It was an ideal spot to take a break and catch my breath.

Family Enjoying a Padres Game at Petco Park
Family Enjoying a Padres Game at Petco Park

San Diego is for city lovers, nature enthusiasts, and everyone in between. Right by the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina are the San Diego Convention Center, Petco Park, and of course, the beautiful marina and waterfront of the Embarcadero San Diego.

Here are some of my favorite activities I think you’ll enjoy during your stay.

Things to Do at the Hotel

From activities to dining to comfortable rooms, the Marriott is a destination on its own, even among other San Diego hotels.

Grassy Area next to the Pool at the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina

Work Up a Sweat, Then Relax

Keep active at the hotel by visiting its fitness center, which has daily classes led by expert instructors. Or practice your swing at the Topgolf Suite.

Then reward yourself with a dip in the pool, or give yourself the VIP treatment at the hotel’s massage and wellness center, The Hideaway.

Bike Rentals

Rent a bike directly from the hotel through Wheel Fun Rentals and hit the biking trails on the property, or take in the sights along the harbor.

Want my recommendation for a beautiful bike route? Take a ride along the San Diego Bayshore Bikeway then catch the ferry across to Coronado Island then bike along the waterfront in Coronado. If you are feeling adventurous then cross over to the ocean side of Coronado Island and explore the beautiful and historic Hotel del Coronado, it is worth it!

Hold a Special Event

There are multiple event spaces on the property perfect for baby shower venues, wedding venues, or booking that ideal San Diego ballroom.

The facility has an event planning staff to assist you with gatherings of any size, and their largest space can accommodate almost 3,700 people.

From the famous San Diego Zoo to the USS Midway Aircraft Carrier Museum, the variety of nearby attractions are why I love the great location of the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina.

Visit Nearby Neighborhoods

Downtown San Diego is right at your doorstep at the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina. Soak up the culture and heritage of Old Town San Diego and Little Italy just by walking down the street or dining at a restaurant.

Exploring the Gaslamp Quarter is always fun too. Take a trip back in time and visit a tequila bar on the Brothels Bites and Booze Food Tour, one of my personal favorites.

The San Diego International Airport (SAN) is less than 4 miles away making it very easy to get to. You don't really need to rent a car as Uber or Lyft is just a click away.

Popular Family Attractions

Some of my favorite family-friendly activities can be found right near the hotel. At the USS Midway Museum, learn about San Diego’s military history aboard a real naval aircraft carrier.

There’s also the museums of Balboa Park and the world-famous San Diego Zoo and San Diego Zoo Safari Park. In fairness, the San Diego Zoo in Balboa Park is close while the San Diego Zoo Safari Park could be a 45 minute drive away in Escondido, but it too is an experience worth considering. If you only have time for one, use our comparison guide to decide which zoo is best for you!

I also recommend the coasters and shows at SeaWorld San Diego.

The All-inclusive Go City San Diego pass lets you save when visiting these attractions, with an additional discount available using our code GVSD5OFF.

Some of the best malls in San Diego are right around the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina. Shop until you drop in Seaport Village, Westfield UTC Mall, Fashion Valley Mall, or Liberty Station.

Harbor Cruise Boat in San Diego Bay

Head to the Coast

When you stay right along the marina, there’s no better way to spend the day than oceanside.

Bordering the Embarcadero is the San Diego Bay, you can schedule a harbor cruise, whale-watching tour, or deep-sea fishing excursion.

Find the best beaches in San Diego where you can surf the waves, paddleboard, sunbathe on the sand, or just people watch!

Alternatively, enjoy the great outdoors when you go hiking at one of the parks or nature preserves in the area, or hit a few rounds at the golf courses around town.
