Thrills, chills, and a lot of Halloween fun awaits as Howl-O-Scream returns to SeaWorld San Diego in 2025 for its fifth anniversary of frightful nights!
If you’ve got teenage kids like me, then this could be an awesome night of fun and memories, with a side of screams and excitement. Howl-O-Scream has quickly become one of my family’s favorite Halloween events, and we can’t wait to go this year!
What began back in 1999 at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay has since expanded to many SeaWorld parks, including the San Diego location in Mission Bay Park. The 2025 event promises tons of thrills with scare zones, live music, haunted attractions, and roaming actors who could be lurking behind the next corner. Watch out!

What is Howl-O-Scream at SeaWorld San Diego?
Howl-O-Scream is SeaWorld’s annual Halloween special engagement that takes place on select nights in September and October. During the event, sections of the SeaWorld San Diego park are restyled in different Halloween themes, from a nightmare experiment to a Mardi Gras night turned wrong.
As guests travel the park, they may encounter surprise scare actors in between watching frightening shows and visiting haunted houses.
SeaWorld San Diego advertises that Howl-O-Scream is an event intended for older teens and adults due to its more mature content. While I’m planning to attend in a few weeks with my teenage kids and wife, and am really excited, the themes are those of horror movies and nightmares. So, be advised that it’s really not an event for younger kids.
When is Howl-O-Scream 2025 SeaWorld San Diego?
Howl-O-Scream at SeaWorld San Diego takes place on Friday and Saturday nights in September and Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights now through November 1st.
Gates open at 6:00pm with the events starting at 7:00pm.

What are Some Howl-O-Scream Alternatives?
I’ve been to Howl-O-Scream a few times and can say that the themes and scares are a lot for me. So the idea of bringing kids under about 13 years old wouldn’t be my personal recommendation for you.
However, San Diego has quite a few family-friendly fall and Halloween events and activities from special events at our theme parks to pumpkin patches spread throughout the city that are fantastic for kids of all ages.
Some popular family-friendly Halloween or fall events among our Go Visit San Diego team include HalGLOWeen at the San Diego Zoo, Brick-or-Treat Monster Party at LEGOLAND California, and holiday events like the Día de Muertos celebrations in Old Town San Diego.
SeaWorld San Diego’s All Age Halloween Spooktacular
SeaWorld San Diego has their very own family-friendly Halloween event called the SeaWorld Spooktacular that runs on Saturdays and Sundays, plus Halloween Friday from September 6th until November 2nd, 2025.
The daytime event includes a Spookley dance party, trick-or-treating, talking skeletons telling jokes, a waterfront pumpkin patch, Spooktacular pumpkin hunt, and more!
