Luxury Meets Fun at the Pacific Terrace Hotel

The Beach Front Pool at Pacific Terrace HotelPacific Terrace Hotel Overlooking the Beach in Pacific Beach

Located between Mission Beach and La Jolla on the cliffs overlooking North Pacific Beach, the Pacific Terrace Hotel is an incredible choice whether you're looking to just relax or you’d rather venture out to see the sights of San Diego.

At just a mere 10 miles from the San Diego International Airport (SAN), I think you get the best of both worlds with a stay at the hotel as the 73-room family-friendly property offers both easy access to the beach and a solid home base to explore the most popular attractions in the city.

Lavish Amenities

With a 4-Diamond rating, the Pacific Terrace Hotel offers lavish amenities that you would expect to see at a much larger resort.

The well-appointed rooms and suites all have private balconies or patios, from which most have a partial or full ocean view. In-room dining and massage services are also available for your privacy and convenience.

Luxury Level Customer Service

I think it may be due to the size of the property with just 73 total rooms and suites, that the customer service is so top-notch!

The multilingual staff can assist you with dining reservations, tour arrangements, and special requests. You’ll notice the difference at every level of interaction, from the friendly valets to the front desk to the concierge.

Be sure to stop by the lobby for coffee in the morning or grab a freshly baked cookie for an afternoon snack. The hotel has a full hot breakfast buffet daily and a tropical bar near the pool for delicious cocktails, complementary non-alcoholic drinks, and snacks.

Full meals can also be brought to your poolside or to your room.

Speaking of the pool, the one at The Pacific Terrace features an oceanfront view and is heated for your comfort. The hotel also has an exercise room and beach cruisers for guests to use.

You also have direct beach access, and your nominal resort fee includes beach chairs, umbrellas, and even sand toys and boogie boards to enjoy during your stay. When you venture off property, you have the Pacific Beach Boardwalk just in front of the hotel, with plenty of shops and restaurants within a short walk from the property.

The property also has a gift shop, perfect for picking up a souvenir or snack, and is pet-friendly.

Our Take: Pacific Terrace Hotel

Ocean View Pool with Chairs at Pacific Terrace Hotel
Ocean View Pool with Chairs at Pacific Terrace Hotel

With a 4-Diamond rating comes a top-tier San Diego vacation experience. I’m talking about prime beach location, luxury amenities, top quality customer service and a heated pool with ocean views! And these are just a few of the reasons this hotel made our team’s list as one of the Best Hotels on the Beach in San Diego.

But if I had to narrow it down to my personal top 3 list of why I think you should choose the Pacific Terrace Hotel for your next trip to San Diego, below are the reasons why my wife and I love visiting this North Pacific Beach Hotel.

Kids Watching the Sunset at Pacific Beach
Kids Watching the Sunset at Pacific Beach

North Pacific Beach Sunsets

I love gazing out at the ocean from our room’s private balcony. My wife and I can cozy up and enjoy a drink or two while watching the sun set over North Pacific Beach.

Facing west, San Diego has some incredible sunsets and the views don’t get much better than from the Pacific Terrace Hotel.

Beachfront Heated Pool . . . Need I Say More?

The beachfront pool is a great place to relax after a long day exploring. Not only is it heated, but it also offers spectacular views of the ocean.

And when my wife and I are ready to turn in, we can relax in our in-room Jacuzzi tub before hitting the sheets.

Location, Location, Location!

Possibly the thing I love the most about this hotel is its prime San Diego location!

It is in the heart of Pacific Beach (PB, as the locals like to call it) making it a perfect base for a beach vacation. It’s also within walking distance to Crystal Pier (also known as the PB Pier), restaurants, shopping and bars.

It’s a short drive or rideshare from the San Diego International Airport (SAN) and popular neighborhoods like La Jolla, Del Mar and the Gaslamp Quarter in Downtown San Diego. You’ll also be near some of the most popular attractions in the city like SeaWorld San Diego in Mission Bay Park and the world-famous San Diego Zoo in Balboa Park!

Things to Do While Staying at Pacific Terrace Hotel

Enjoying a Margarita in Pacific Beach
Enjoying a Margarita in Pacific Beach

During your stay at The Pacific Terrace Hotel, you can enjoy the activities that are located on-site. You have the outdoor pool and hot tubs, beach bikes, and fitness center to use at your convenience, or you can arrange for a massage poolside or in your room for more privacy.

Away from the property, you have North Pacific Beach as your playground, with the Boardwalk’s shops, bars, and restaurants.

Read on to learn more about the activities you can do both at the Pacific Terrace Hotel and nearby.

Around the Property

With direct beach access to a plethora of fun and exciting water activities and a new onsite cafe, you won’t have to travel far to enjoy the best that San Diego and North Pacific Beach has to offer its visitors.

Here are four of our team’s top-rated activities when we think you should try when visiting this beachfront hotel.

Get a Bite to Eat

Forget the wait! Previously, Pacific Terrace Hotel contracted with nearby Pacific Beach restaurants to provide food and drinks for its guests.

But now you can dine with food made onsite and eat and drink to your heart’s content. The Pacific Terrace Hotel has a brand new dining area called Terrace Cafe which is open daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Relax with a Private Massage

You can enjoy a tranquil massage either in your guestroom or with your partner in a private couple’s massage room.

I say treat yourself! Drift off as you listen to the sounds of the Pacific Ocean and take in the soothing scents of aromatherapy while receiving the nourishing pampering your body and mind needs.

Go to the Beach

Pacific Terrace is overlooking the beautiful North Pacific Beach.

The beach just in front is an amazing spot to sunbathe, swim or surf. It is a must place to hit!

Try Water Activities

Surfing, sunbathing, stand-up paddle boarding, swimming, kayaking and snorkeling are just some of the many options for fun at Pacific Beach, especially at the nearby La Jolla sea caves.

Speaking of La Jolla, one of my favorite kayaking tours is offered at the Seven Sea Caves and La Jolla Ecological Reserve. It’s not far from the hotel and if you’d like a family-friendly way to get on the water, this could be a good choice!

The guided tour immerses you in a thriving underwater ecosystem that is home to one of California’s highest concentrations of sea life.
