As a long time local to San Diego myself, raising a family with two growing kids, I can say that I look forward to exploring my city each October.
Not only is the weather incredible in the fall, with clear skies and comfortable temperatures, but there are also a good number of free activities in San Diego to enjoy with my kids. A lot of the savings is due to the annual Kids Free San Diego program in October which always saves me and my wife a lot of money.
It’s an incredible program with some new additions for 2025 and I’m excited to tell you all about it!
What is the Kids Free San Diego Program?
Kids Free San Diego is an annual program presented by the San Diego Foundation where kids 12 and under receive FREE admission to more than 60 of San Diego’s most popular museums, aquariums, theme parks, historical sites, cultural centers, gardens and more.
The program also includes deals at hotels and restaurants where kids can stay and eat for free with dozens more deals on hotels, activities, and attractions throughout the city.
The Fine Print
The only real print is that requirements and age limits can vary slightly from location to location. Also, admission for a kid’s ticket at many of the museums is usually free with the purchase of one full price paid adult ticket.
The coupons also generally cannot be combined with other discounts or offers like the Balboa Park Explore Pass, City Pass, or Go City San Diego pass.
Some museums will also have a charge for special exhibits or programs or may limit the use to once per month per visitor. My experience has been that when in doubt, just give the museum a quick call and they will be happy to answer your questions!
When Does the Kids Free San Diego Program Run in 2025?
The program runs the entire month of October, from October 1st until October 31st, 2025.
Which Attractions are Included as Part of the Kids Free San Diego 2025?
So you’re surely wondering which museums and attractions are participating in the Kids Free San Diego program this October 2025?
I’ve looked it over and this year’s list is quite long, which is great news for parents! With museums and theme parks taking part as well as historic sites, aquariums, gardens and many more, there are over 100 deals you won't want to miss.
Our team at Go Visit San Diego has visited many of these museums and theme parks and written full guides sharing our personal experiences as well as ticket information, how to get there and more. With that in mind, feel free to click on any that interest you and read the guide to learn all about that location.
While you couldn’t possibly visit them all in one month, having the complete list to pick your favorites and plan ahead would be a good idea. Let’s have a look at the list of museums, theme parks and more participating in Kids Free San Diego 2025!

What Do I Need to Get Free Admission for My Kids?
To take advantage of the Kids Free San Diego program, you’ll want to download a kids free museum pass or kids free coupon. It’s easy to get the coupon, just requiring an email address and zip code.
From there you’ll just want to print your coupon or be prepared to show your pass on your phone at participating museums and attractions.
Get Discounted Admission Year-Round with Go City San Diego!
While there are plenty of completely free activities for kids in October, some of San Diego’s top attractions, tours, and equipment rentals also offer affordable discounted admission year-round through the Go City San Diego pass.
Consider that while kids get in free in October, adults and parents do not. And that’s why this pass is one of my insider tips for travelers looking to explore San Diego’s most popular attractions in October, and throughout the year.
Also while many attractions and museums do participate in the Kids Free San Diego program, not all attractions, tours and gear rentals participate. Depending on what you’d like to do, the pass could still very much be a good choice for your entire family, even during October.
You can maximize the savings for your family this October when you use our exclusive discount code GVSD5OFF in addition to the already discounted prices offered by the Go City San Diego pass.

The ‘Kids Go Free in October’ promotion with the Go City San Diego Pass is another incredible offer running concurrently with the annual Kid Free San Diego program. I’ve been recommending the Go City San Diego pass for years now and this is honestly possibly the best flash sale I’ve ever seen them offer!
With the purchase of a single Adult Go City San Diego Essentials Pass, which is currently $154, you’ll be eligible to get up to FOUR FREE KIDS PASSES. You must purchase by October 14th and use the FREE kids passes by October 31st.
So while I love the Kid Free San Diego program and that’s what we’re going to focus on in this article, what this means to me is if you multiple kids and are interested in visiting a major attractions like the San Diego Zoo, San Diego Zoo Safari Park, LEGOLAND California, Birch Aquarium at Scripps or Belmont Park, you might just be better off using this deal instead.
Remember if you purchase your Adult Go City San Diego Essentials Pass by October 14th, you can add up to four kids passes to your cart for free which could be as much as a $600 savings!
Avoid Parking Headaches at Balboa Park
The lots closest to the museums fill by 10 AM. Don't circle! Head directly to the larger Inspiration Point lot east of the park. It's a short walk over the bridge, or you can catch the free park tram that drops you right in the center of the action. It's the easiest way in.
