Metal for the Pacific Beach Half Marathon & 5K 2025
Whether you're racing or cheering, a little planning will go a long way toward making your experience unforgettable.
How Do I Prepare for a Half Marathon?
I’m not an expert by any means, but I know that if you want to run the half marathon, 8 to10 weeks of training is ideal. Even late in the game, I’d suggest that you plan a few training days pre-race.
I mix long runs, rest days, and shorter tempo runs to build endurance. Bike rides along Mission Bay or yoga on the beach help me stay loose too.
Race week, I stick with familiar protein packed meals, hydrate early, and try to get enough sleep.
Last Minute Updates
If you want last-minute updates, be sure to sign up for the race newsletter where the organization itself will share the latest information and updates about the races.
How’s the Weather in Pacific Beach in October?
The 2025 event takes place in early October’s mild, coastal San Diego weather. I will dress in layers and bring a light jacket, so I’d suggest that you do the same.
Also, make sure not to forget to wear sunscreen!
What to Pack & Race Day Tips
Bring your race bib, hydration gear, phone chargers, and comfy post-race clothes.
Spectators should pack sun protection and beach chairs.
No pets or large bags. Pro tip: stick to the provided clear gear check bags.
I’ve seen strollers in the 5K, but check the rules closer to race day to be sure they are permitted.
Where is the Best Place to Watch the Race as a Spectator?
I live in Pacific Beach so I know the area very well. Honestly, anywhere along the route will be perfect to watch the runners and be part of the action.
For my family, they usually watch near the finish line on Thomas Avenue as I run with my wife. As a bonus tip, nearby cafés like Better Buzz Coffee are our go-tos after the race, just know that on race day, they will be extra busy!
