What You Should Know About the 2025 San Diego Santa Run

Santas Beyond the Eye Can See at the San Diego Santa RunThe Dog Run at the San Diego Santa Run

It's that time of year again when thousands of runners dressed in Santa suits all converge on Pacific Beach for one glorious event! That's right, the 2025 edition of the San Diego Santa Run is taking place this coming weekend!

Let me start by giving you a little background on the San Diego Santa Run, one of my favorite holiday events of the season, and I'm not alone.

The USA Today voted it the 'best fun run' in the entire United States - and that's saying something! I'll never forget the first time I saw all those festive Santa's running toward me in those Santa suits. It was hilarious!

Although the event is basically the same each year, the organizers always change it up a bit to keep things interesting and so locals and visitors are excited to return. I'll cover what's new in 2025 but let me start with the basics.

We've got a lot more details about what you'll get for registering and more on our complete 2025 Santa Run Guide so be sure to check that out.

Local Tips
Arrive Early for Best Parking & Photos
Pacific Beach gets packed on Santa Run day. Locals know to arrive at least an hour early to snag street parking and grab prime photo spots along Garnet Avenue before the sea of Santas takes over. The energy builds fast, so early birds get the best experience!

This Year's Santa Run - What's New for 2025

Now, let's get into one of the big questions we're here to answer - what's new for 2025! Here are some ways the organizers changed things up to add to the excitement.

Changes in Free Swag

The biggest changes to note are the swag offerings. Each group receives free swag before the race. This year, runners in the 5Ks will receive:

  • Sunny Santa Suit
  • Sunglasses
  • Free Photos
  • Drink Ticket
  • Chip Timing

The difference? Last year, the runners didn't get photos. Personally, I think the free photos are an upgrade because they really bring back memories and are shareable.

Kids Run racers will receive:

  • Santa Hat & T-Shirt
  • Sunglasses
  • Free Photos
  • Chip Timing for Kids Run
  • Finisher Medal for Kids Run

Last year, the kids only got a Santa hat, no t-shirt, so that's a definite improvement. Like the adults, they also get a free photo as well.

Dogs Run racers (and their families) receive:

  • Santa Hat & T-Shirt
  • Sunglasses
  • Chip Timing
  • Free Photos
  • Drink Ticket

Last year, the package did not include a t-shirt, free photos, or a drink ticket, so dogs definitely got an upgrade. And, in case you didn't know, the drink ticket is for the dog owners of course, not the dogs!

Changes in Purchasable Swag

Participants and supporters can also purchase swag. In 2025, there are some changes to what's available and the prices.

  • Santa Run T-Shirt: Like in 2024, Santa Run t-shirts will be available for purchase. However, the price has increased from $20 to $29.
  • Santa Run Socks: Santa Run socks are still available though a few bucks more this year. Also, the design has changed. Instead of the 2024 candy cane socks, 2025's socks say, "I Ran With Him."
  • Santa Run Beanies: These are a new addition to the purchasable swag and will run you $19.99.

Pricing

In a world where everything is getting more expensive, it's good to know that the initial pricing for the run has remained the same. However, last year it went up by $10 per race on race day.

This year, prices are set to increase on race day again, though the website does not specify by how much. With that in mind, I suggest that you lock in your registration before the race this Saturday so you're not charged extra.

Parking & Transportation: What You Need to Know

Parking will be tough on race day as Garnet Avenue will be shut down. Here are some tips to keep in mind.

Getting There

If you decide to drive, head toward Pacific Beach. The I-5 is the nearest freeway, and Exit 23A will provide you access towards Garnet Ave. and the start line.

Parking

The main event parking is located at 800-898 Hornblend Ave. However, there will be paid parking lots throughout the area. Street parking will be possible but VERY challenging to find.

My advice is to pick a GPS route, avoiding Garnet Ave., or use public transportation such as the San Diego Trolley, MTS Bus system, or a San Diego rideshare.
