2025 Pacific Beachfest - Overview and Highlights

Are you thinking about attending the Pacific Beachfest 2025? If so, you're in for an exciting, sun-filled day by the ocean with delicious food, lively music, and a full slate of family-friendly events!

What Is Pacific Beachfest?

Pacific Beachfest is a one-day event showing off the best of my personal favorite part of San Diego, and hometown neighborhood, that of Pacific Beach!

The day will unofficially kick off at 7:30am with an early wave of runners and then again at 9:00am with a main wave of runners from 700 Thomas Ave, on the beach of course, with the 10th Annual Pacific Beach 5K. Let me not forget to mention the Pacific Beach Kids 1K that starts at the same location at 10:15am!

I’ve seen some conflicting information about the Pacific Beach Half Marathon as previously the Pacific Beach Half Marathon and 5K was a single day event. For 2025, it has been expanded to a two day running weekend with the half marathon starting at 6:30am from Crown Point Park, Mission Bay on Sunday, October 5th.

As the Saturday morning runs conclude, the rest of the day will offer a mix of live music, local food, art, beach sports including beach soccer and volleyball, and good vibes right on the PB boardwalk, formally known as the Ocean Front Walk. I can say from years of experience that the event feels like the ultimate local beach party!

You’ll find everything from surfing contests to taco tasting and a kids zone, plus an expansive local artisan market and tasty food. It’s one of my favorite fall activities in San Diego!

When and Where Will the Pacific Beachfest Be Held in 2025?

Pacific Beachfest 2025 is set to take place on Saturday, October 4th from 9:00am until 7:00pm right along the boardwalk in Pacific Beach, between Felspar Street and Thomas Street.

Admission is free, so I say plan on spending a few hours (or the whole day) soaking it all in!

What’s New in 2025?

So you might be wondering what’s new for 2025 and why the Pacific Beachfest is one of the most popular events in San Diego?

This year, Pacific Beachfest is expanding the live music stage lineup, bringing in more artisan market vendors, and the fish taco tasting competition is getting a major upgrade with the best local taquerias jumping in.

Who is Beachfest For and Why Go

Beachfest is for everyone! Whether you're looking for a fun weekend plan, craving the real PB experience, or searching for free kid-friendly fun in San Diego, Beachfest hits the mark. Younger kids will love the kids’ zone, and I’m all about the taco tasting competition and live music.

It’s an event that brings everyone together, from the laid-back beachgoers, to the high-energy crew, and even out of town visitors are more than welcome to attend!

What really makes Beachfest special is how it blends San Diego’s chill beach vibe with community energy. It’s not overly commercial and it kind of feels like one of the best live music events near me, only on the sand.

Local Tips
Beat the Crowds at the Fish Taco Contest
The Best of the Beach Fish Taco Contest is a local favorite! To avoid the longest lines, grab your $20 ticket and start sampling right when it opens at 11 AM. This ensures you get to try all the competitors and cast your vote before the main afternoon rush begins.

If you’re heading to Pacific Beachfest 2025, here are my pro tips in terms of costs and where to stay nearby to maximize your trip.

Is Pacific Beachfest Free?

Most of Pacific Beachfest is free! However, some activities require registration. You can sign up on the Pacific Beachfest official site under the activities tab.

Below are the events and activities that require registration and have a cost to participate.

  • 5K Run & 1K Kids Run: Part of the Pacific Beach Half Marathon & 5K, these races take place on Saturday, October 4th, 2025. Registration for the 5K is $65.99 and Kids Fun Run is $34.99. Remember, the half marathon takes place on Sunday in 2025.
  • Volo 4Sum Beach Volleyball Tournament: Hosted by Volo, this tournament is scheduled for Saturday, October 4th, 2025, with registration costing between $45 and $264. Early registration offers the best value. It’s closed for this year, but it’s a great idea to plan ahead for next year.
  • Fish Taco Contest: Scheduled from 11:00am to 2:00pm on Saturday, October 4th, 2025, you can sample tacos from five local restaurants for $20. Tickets are available at the food court on the day of the event.

Accommodations Near Pacific Beach

While Pacific Beachfest is a single day event, my family friends like to make a weekend of it by staying at one of my favorite nearby hotels.

There are a number of fantastic hotels in Pacific Beach and Mission Beach. I personally love the 4-star Wayfarer San Diego which is located right on the beach and features clean rooms and ocean views from its pool.

I also would recommend the San Diego Mission Bay Resort. It’s a touch further away but has a huge pool, Mission Bay views, and firepits which are an awesome bonus in the cooler October evenings!

One more quick hotel suggestion would be the Tower23 Hotel. It’s laidback, beachfront, and literally located on the same street at the Pacific Beachfest! I don’t think you can get more conveniently located than that!

It’s fair to say that staying at a nearby hotel just makes parking easier and cuts down on the hassle of commuting.

Extend Your Trip and Enjoy More Local Activities for Less

If you plan to stay at a local hotel for the weekend, some of the best things to do in San Diego are nearby. The San Diego Zoo in beautiful Balboa Park is a must-see for animal enthusiasts, and the Birch Aquarium at Scripps in La Jolla is another family favorite.

You can bundle visits to my favorite San Diego attractions for kids with bike rentals or surfing lessons by purchasing Go Visit San Diego passes. You’ll save on admission and really make the most of your visit to this beautiful California community.

There’s currently an option to save even more on your passes and vacation costs by using discount code GVSD5OFF for an extra 5% off at checkout.

Spotlight on Beachfest: Music, Market & Taco Fun

Main Stage at the Pacific Beachfest
Main Stage at the Pacific Beachfest

From beachside concerts to local crafts and mouthwatering tacos, Pacific Beachfest 2025 is packed with fun experiences. Here are the things my family is most excited about this year.

Live Music

Live music is a huge part of the Beachfest experience, and this year’s lineup looks great. Performances run from 9:00am to 7:00pm across three stages.

Main Stage Headliners include:

  • B-Side Players – 5:30pm
  • Fishing for Chips – 3:30pm
  • Paging the 90s – 1:30pm
  • Rock of Ages – 11:00am
  • DJ Betty Bangs – 9:30am

The Beer Garden Stage is more relaxed. There you can grab a drink and enjoy mostly DJ music without the crowds.

The Community Stage highlights school bands, local jazz groups, and youth orchestras. It’s a fun way to support the next generation of musicians. There will be live music there from 9:00am, starting with Hailey Sage until 5:30pm with the Shoreline Blues.

If you’re like me and want to catch a little of everything, showing up early and stage-hopping is the way to go. Check out Pacific Beachfest on Facebook for updates and reviews of must-see artists.

Local Artisans

I think that the artisan market is one of the best parts of the festival! In 2025, it will feature over 60 local vendors offering handmade jewelry, clothing and home goods.

Visiting the market is also a great way to support the Pacific Beach community and shop local.

Fish Taco Tasting Extravaganza

My family never misses the Best of the Beach Fish Taco Contest. This year the 16th annual event runs from 11:00am to 2:00pm. For $20, you can sample five tacos from local restaurants competing for the crown.

Grab a wristband and voting ballot at the food court concession stand, try each taco, and vote for your favorite. Voting closes around 3:15pm.

This event attracts a crowd and really highlights San Diego’s strong taco culture. It’s casual, flavorful, and totally worth it!

Family Fun Activities on the Sand

The activities available for the younger crowd make this festival ideal for families. There’s no shortage of them planned for this year.

Kid Zones & Interactive Activities

The Kids Action Alley is a go-to spot for kids ages 3-12. Your kids can enjoy the beachside rides, free games, and an exciting YMCA climbing wall.

Active teens can get particularly excited about the sports and beach volleyball game zones.

Demos and Workshops

Along the boardwalk, keep your eyes open for local surfing lessons and demonstrations, wellness mini demonstrations, or art drops by local artisans.

My family has taken part in food tastings, hands-on art events, and maker sessions during past festivals. Artisans set up and demonstrate along the boardwalk, creating interactive spaces.

Also look for surprise performances and guest appearances on the Community Stage including dance groups, local youth acts, or pop-up entertainers, all a big hit with the kids!

Eat, Travel, and Getting Around the Beachfest

When attending Pacific Beachfest, it’s important to know where to eat, how to get there, and where to park. Here’s my cheat sheet.

Travel, Parking & Public Transit Options

Parking in Pacific Beach during Beachfest can be tricky, especially with street closures west of Mission Boulevard. There are over 20 paid lots, but they fill up fast. Some street parking is available, but watch for temporary “no parking” zones and new metered areas along busy streets like Garnet and Cass.

Public transit is easier! MTS bus routes like the 9, 27, 30, and 34 serve the area. San Diego rideshare drop-off and pick-up is encouraged and will be easiest near Thomas Avenue.

If you're staying nearby, walking, biking, or using a scooter can save you the headache of parking altogether!

Festival Accessibility

I’ve always loved how Pacific Beachfest aims to be accessible to all. My family has enjoyed the stroller and wheelchair-friendly paths. Sand can affect mobility in some areas, but there’s a lot to enjoy if you have a family member with limitations.

For convenience, you’ll find portable restrooms, including accessible units in the restroom clusters. Water refill stations are also available at multiple spots, so bring your refillable water bottle.

If a personal item goes missing, check lost and found, typically handled at a central festival office or booth. The map can guide you there.

What Food and Beverage Options are Available?

Aside from the taco tasting competition, there will be a wide array of Pacific Beachfest food vendors. Expect to see dessert vendors, smoothies, craft beverages, coffee, snack booths, and other local favorites.

Festival Pro-Style: Tips for a Smooth Day

A little prep goes a long way toward having an awesome Pacific Beachfest day. Below are my tips from a true local!

Weather and What to Wear

San Diego weather in October is typically mild, sunny, and dry. Temperatures often range from the high 60s to low 80s, with somewhat cloudy mornings. Layers are best, like a light shirt, plus a hoodie for evening. Sunglasses, a hat, and sunscreen are musts. Because you’ll be on the sand and walking a lot, think comfy shoes. In case of rain, a light poncho is also handy to have.

Carry a small backpack with a few light snacks and a refillable water bottle. Staying hydrated in the heat makes for a happier day and less grumpy crew.

Avoid the Crowds

Honestly, it’s impossible to completely avoid the crowds at Beachfest, but arriving early, and before the bigger headliners hit, helps. Between 11:00am until 2:00pm is usually the busiest.

If you want to skip the late-day rush, heading out right after the final headliner can help you beat the mass exodus. Also, plan to move around; visit quieter areas earlier and hit popular zones later when things spread out.

For fish taco tasting, I’d go right at 11:00am if possible. That will give you better access, shorter lines, and more time to vote before things wind down.

Safety and What’s Allowed

Here are a few helpful tips about what’s allowed inside the festival and safety precautions that can make the day a smooth one.

  • Pets are generally not allowed from 9:00am to 6:00pm, per city park rules.
  • Prohibited items include weapons, large coolers, glass containers, and drones. If in doubt, leave it at home or check the website.
  • Follow posted signage and instructions from security staff, especially near the stages, volleyball zones, or crowd control areas.

Pacific Beachfest 2025 will be a blast! Bring the family, try new activities, and experience a taste of all that PB has to offer!
