Honoring Those Who Serve: Fleet Week Returns to San Diego

SPECIAL NOTE: Amid the ongoing federal government shutdown, unfortunately many events scheduled for San Diego’s 2025 Fleet Week have been cancelled with an expected return in 2026. Fortunately, select events have NOT been cancelled at this time but may now take place at alternate venues. As more information comes available, we will update you here. In the meantime, read on for the most up to date information regarding the status of the Fleet Week San Diego’s 2025 lineup of events.

This fall, the annual Fleet Week San Diego returns to kick off the 2025 festivities. I attended Fleet Week last year with my son Lucas, and I was completely blown away! I’m already planning to go again this year with more friends, I can’t wait!

Which is why I want to tell you all about what is planned for 2025!

What is Fleet Week?

Fleet Week is a series of events over a 10-day period that doubles as both a way to honor veterans and active-duty service members plus a way to provide a bridge between the military and the local community.

This year, the 250th anniversary of the Navy and Marine Corps will be celebrated, honoring those who have served our country.

The lineup of events aims to increase awareness of San Diego’s military presence and its connections to the community, while also providing fun and family-friendly activities for service members and civilians alike.

When and Where is Fleet Week San Diego 2025? (October 30th, 2025 UPDATE)

Fleet Week San Diego runs from October 30th through November 9th, 2025.

Unfortunately due to the ongoing federal government shutdown, dates and times of many scheduled events have been either cancelled or altered. Also, we do know that the events at Broadway Pier have been cancelled for 2025.

Many Fleet Week celebrations will take place in the Embarcadero area of Downtown San Diego, right by the beautiful San Diego Bay at the Broadway Pier. Others will take place across San Diego at locations like Spreckels Organ Pavilion and the San Diego Zoo, both in Balboa Park.

San Diego’s Military History

San Diego may not be as well known for its naval bases as it is for its beaches, but its history with the military dates all the way back to the early 1900s.

As an important center for military operations on the West Coast during World War II and beyond, there are still multiple Naval and Marine Corps bases around the city, particularly around the bay and at Point Loma. In fact, you may not know this but San Diego has the greatest U.S. military concentration in the entire country!

Today, there are lots of ways to learn about the area’s connection to the military - one of our year-round favorites is at the USS Midway Museum, which is part of the Go City San Diego pass - but in November, there’s no better way than attending Fleet Week.

My Personal Take on Fleet Week 2025

I’m a big supporter of our military, their sacrifices, and all that they do to keep us safe.

So for me, this event is something that goes beyond just ‘having a good time’. It’s also about showing my appreciation for all that the military does for our country.

Some events during Fleet Week are designed for military members and their families such as Military Family Day.

Fleet Week Football Classic (October 30th, 2025 UPDATE: Proceeding at Scheduled)

  • Location: Snapdragon Stadium
  • Date: Saturday, November 1st, 2025
  • Time: 4:00pm kickoff

If you’re a college football fan then you won’t want to miss the Fleet Week Football Classic - Homecoming Game and Heroes Game - set for Saturday, November 1st, 2025 at Snapdragon Stadium between the SDSU Aztecs and Wyoming Cowboys.

Scheduled for a 4:00pm kickoff, US Navy & active military personnel will be honored during the game for all they do to protect our freedoms. As of writing this article, tickets are still available.

We’ve also heard that the first fans to arrive will receive a free SDSU short sleeve hoodie (while supplies last).

As someone that’s been to Snapdragon Stadium, I’d recommend you plan to arrive with plenty of time to spare as traffic can be quite heavy before events.

  • Location: Spreckels Organ Pavilion in Balboa Park
  • Date: Sunday, November 2nd, 2025

I’m a music lover myself and when I get the opportunity to hear live music, I’m usually up for it!

At the event, you will have the chance to listen to the distinguished Marine Band San Diego and Navy Band Southwest which is something I’m really looking forward to.

Vietnam veterans who have not previously been awarded a Commemorative Pin will be honored at the concert.

The concert will be held on Sunday, November 2nd from 2:00pm to 4:00pm in Balboa Park at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion, and admission is completely free.

Military Ship Tours (October 30th, 2025 UPDATE: Cancelled)

  • Location: Broadway Pier
  • Date: Friday, November 7th, 2025 - Sunday, November 9th
  • Time: Friday: 12:00pm to 4:00pm | Saturday & Sunday: 10:00pm to 4:00pm

Have you ever wanted to see what a U.S. Navy or Coast Guard ship looks like on the inside? From Friday, November 7th through Sunday, November 9th, ships will be docked at the Broadway Pier, welcoming you to climb aboard and learn about what daily life is like for the thousands of service members who live on these vessels.

All tours are free and do not require advanced reservations. They are given on a first-come, first-served basis from 12:00pm - 4:00pm on Friday and 10:00am - 4:00pm on Saturday and Sunday. Tour goers must wear closed-toed shoes and have a valid Government Picture ID, like a license or passport.

I went last year with my family and toured an active Navy ship. I can tell you that stepping inside felt surreal. It was one of the coolest experiences I’ve had in San Diego, which is saying a lot! I can’t wait to do it again this year!

Veterans and Military Boat Parade (October 30th, 2025 UPDATE: Cancelled)

  • Location: San Diego Bay
  • Date: Saturday, November 8th, 2025
  • Time:10:45am

As a coastal city and the home of the annual Bayfair event, it’s no surprise that San Diego has a huge boating scene. To celebrate Veterans Day this year, Fleet Week is hosting its own Veterans Day Boat Parade on Saturday, November 8th, starting at 10:45am in the San Diego Bay.

Boats in the parade will be decorated to fit the military theme, and locals are invited to decorate their personal boats and join in. There will even be trophies awarded for the best decorations in each of the following categories listed below.

  • U.S. Army
  • U.S. Navy
  • U.S. Air Force
  • U.S. Marine Corps
  • U.S. Coast Guard
  • Best Decorated Patriotic Boat

You can watch the parade from any of a number of locations around the bay, including Harbor Island, Shelter Island, Seaport Village, Coronado Tidelands Park, and the shores of the Embarcadero.

I’d recommend that you plan to arrive a little before the parade begins to ensure you get a great spot, especially if you’re bringing the family along.

It’s important to note that this year’s luncheon is not being held during Fleet Week. It will be Friday, November 21st, 2025, from 11:30am until 1:30pm, and will take place at the San Diego Zoo. Tables run anywhere from $700 to $1000 each for a party of four.

Important Visitor Information

Since many of the public activities are scheduled to be held at the Broadway Pier on N. Harbor Drive, you’re going to want to know the best ways to get there and where to park.

Fred Shuttle next to the Star of India
Fred Shuttle next to the Star of India

Public Transportation

Getting to Broadway Pier is easy because there are so many public transportation choices.

You can choose the San Diego Trolley service exiting at Santa Fe Depot, the Coaster, or the MTS bus. If you’re taking the bus, I would recommend lines 11, 83, 923, and 992, because they all stop near the Pier.

If you’re in Downtown San Diego, you could also take the FRED, the electric shuttle service that runs all throughout Downtown San Diego.

Driving and Parking

While I’d highly recommend taking one of San Diego’s convenient public transportation options if you drive to the Pier, there are quite a few parking areas.

You’ll find parking on North Harbor Drive between West Hawthorn Street and West Grape Street, as well as a lot near Navy Pier adjacent to the USS Midway Museum that should cost between $15 and $30.

You can also use parking meters and pay stations that are near the pier.

Accessibility

There is handicap parking in the area for those that need it. Be sure to get to your event early so you can get a spot.

Fleet Week Planning Tips

Attending Fleet Week in San Diego is an amazing experience, and one that I can’t wait to do again this year. I have a few more insider tips from my previous visits that I want to share with you.

Get There Early

If you’re going to the concert or another time-specific event, get there early. Expect a lot of people! Give yourself time to park and get settled.

Wear Comfortable Shoes & Clothes

The boat tours are great, but you’ll want to wear comfy shoes. Also, don’t forget that closed-toe shoes are required. Fall can get chilly in San Diego, so I would dress in layers to maximize your comfort when you’re taking part in the Fleet Week events.

Take Lots of Pictures

Be sure to take plenty of pictures! Many of these sites make for incredible memories that you’ll want to look back on forever. The Marines were incredibly welcoming and even encouraged us to take pictures!

Last year me and my son got to hold some wild gear, from massive guns to rocket launchers, and even climb onto tanks. Maybe we’ll even include one of the pictures on our family’s 2025 Christmas card!
