The Latest with 2025 San Diego Fleet Week

Loving Fleet Week San DiegoTodd and Lucas on Deck of USS Germantown with AH 1Z Viper at Fleet Week San Diego

San Diego’s 2025 Fleet Week events have been something my family and I have been looking forward to since we visited in 2024.

My son and I were really impressed with how friendly the Marines were, how interesting the experience was getting to tour a real Navy ship, and even how cool it was to hold military equipment like a rocket launcher!

Unfortunately we just got word that there have been some pretty major adjustments to the 10-day slate of exciting events. But don’t worry! We’ve gathered all of the absolute latest information, now as of November 1st, 2025, and are ready to share everything we know at this point

Is San Diego Fleet Week Cancelled?

No! While many headlines you might see say that 2025 San Diego Fleet Week is cancelled, that is not completely correct.

While it is true that San Diego Fleet Week has been scaled back, and some events have been cancelled for 2025, those primarily scheduled to be held at the Broadway Pier, others have not been cancelled at this point.

For example, the Fleet Week Football Classic between SDSU and Wyoming and the Military Family Day event will either go on as scheduled or are being rescheduled or changing venues, with more events currently listed as ‘pending resolution to the government shutdown’.

So, there will still be some Fleet Week events in 2025 with more hopefully being added back in the coming days.

Why is (Some of) San Diego Fleet Week Cancelled?

Amid the ongoing federal government shutdown, the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Coast Guard have had a lapse in appropriations and thus will not be able to ‘provide the Navy Ship, Coast Guard Cutter and Marine Corps equipment necessary to support the Fleet Week Public Outreach events scheduled for Broadway Pier’.

In simple terms, the event as a whole is currently unable to get the funds and manpower for many of the events, especially those scheduled for Broadway Pier, to go on as planned in 2025.

What’s the Latest with San Diego Fleet Week 2025 Locations and Event Dates?

Fleet Week San Diego was originally scheduled for October 30th through November 9th, 2025.

Unfortunately due to the ongoing federal government shutdown, many scheduled events have been either cancelled or altered, with the vast majority of the cancelled events being the ones scheduled to take place at Broadway Pier.

At this point, some events like the Military Family Day are looking for a new location, and others like the Enlisted Recognition Luncheon are looking for a new date and time. Keep reading for the event-by-event latest information!

Confirmed Event Cancellations

Sadly, many events scheduled for 2025 Fleet Week have been cancelled. The list below is our confirmed list of cancellations.

  • Student STEM Days
  • Innovation Zone
  • Public Ship Tours & Military Displays
  • Veterans & Military Boat Parade
  • San Diego Fleet Week Breakfast
  • MRE Cooking Competition

For what it’s worth, San Francisco Fleet Week events have also been cancelled or heavily altered due to the government shutdown, so we’re not alone here.

I was personally really looking forward to the Veterans & Military Boat Parade on the San Diego Bay and Navy Ship Tours right next to the USS Midway. I also know that the Student STEM Days welcomed 4200 students last year with more planned for 2025, another event that didn’t make the cut.

Navy spokesman Brian O’Rourke went on the record saying "We’re disappointed, as our Sailors look forward every year to Fleet Week events, but Navy planners will begin preparing for our participation in the 2026 Fleet Week as early as January."

Not all of the 2025 San Diego Fleet Week events have been cancelled. Let me tell you about what events still will (or may) go on as planned!

Events Proceeding as Scheduled

Let’s start with the good news here! Not every San Diego Fleet Week was cancelled in 2025. In fact one event was unaffected and will go on as originally planned!

  • Fleet Week Football Classic

The annual Fleet Week Football Classic scheduled for Saturday, November 1st, 2025 at Snapdragon Stadium with a 4:00pm kickoff will go on as scheduled. The Homecoming and Heroes Game will honor US Navy, first responders, & active military personnel.

They’ll still be giving away free SDSU short sleeve hoodies while supplies last to the first fans to arrive as well . So if you have tickets to the game, nothing has changed and I hope you enjoy the game!

Events Being Rescheduled or Changing Venues

Two San Diego Fleet Week events are in the process of being rescheduled or their venue is being changed. The good news is, they are NOT cancelled in 2025.

  • Military Family Day
  • Enlisted Recognition Luncheon

Military Family Day, reserved for active military members and their families, originally scheduled to take place at the Broadway Pier on Sunday, November 9th, 2025 from 10:00am to 4:00pm is looking for a new venue. The location on the official site is currently listed as ‘TBD’.

We do know that this is an incredibly important event to the San Diego Fleet Week Foundation so as we hear more, we’ll be sure to let you know!

The other event in this category, the Enlisted Recognition Luncheon, is scheduled to proceed as planned at the San Diego Zoo in Balboa Park. Originally it was set for Friday, November 21st, 2025 from 11:00am until 1:30pm.

The event is set to host more than 300 military enlisted guests who have set themselves apart by their community service and within their commands. The organization is currently looking for a new date to host the event with the date still showing the original November 21st, 2025 from 11:00am until 1:30pm. If we hear more, we’ll plan to update you here.

Events Pending the Resolution of the Government Shutdown

There are also three additional San Diego Fleet Week events that are NOT cancelled at this point but rather listed as ‘Pending the Resolution of the Government Shutdown’.

  • Military & Veteran Appreciation Concert
  • 250th Navy and Marine Corps Birthday Celebration
  • Fleet Week 5K Race & Family Walk

All three of these events look like they could be a lot of fun if they are able to go on! The Military and Veteran Appreciation Concert originally scheduled for Sunday, November 2nd, 2025 at Spreckels Organ Pavilion in Balboa Park from 2:00pm to 4:00pm is coming up fast!

The Marine Band San Diego and Navy Band Southwest were set to perform a free concert where Vietnam veterans who have not previously been awarded a Commemorative Pin were to be honored. I love the music so I personally am hoping the concert will still take place but as of now it’s still ‘TBD’.

The 250th Navy and Marine Corps Birthday Celebration event set for Broadway Pier on Thursday, November 6th, 2025 from 5:00pm until 9:30pm might just have been the biggest event of them all. If the event is able to take place you can expect a military aircraft flyover, live performances, delicious food, and a drone show.

And finally the Fleet Week 5K Race & Family Walk scheduled to take place in Ruocco Park on Sunday, November 9th, 2025 starting at 8:00am is still in question. The official release has it listed as ‘pending the resolution of the government shutdown’, but we’ve also seen a note as of today saying that it may be cancelled for 2025.

I’m hopeful it goes on as planned. If not, I think it’s fair to guess that refunds will be processed for registration fees paid, but that is yet to be confirmed.

The cancellation or rescheduling of the events for 2025 San Diego Fleet Week is disappointing. I’m sure that if you were planning to take your family like me or thinking about attending, you too are a bit bummed out!

So what comes next?

There are still multiple events that are looking for a new venue or date plus a few that are pending the resolution to the government shutdown. If the government opens again, I know the San Diego Fleet Week Foundation will be ready to find a way to hold as many events as possible in 2025 and if not, they will begin the planning for 2026 San Diego Fleet Week soon.
