Local Beats & Eats: Adams Avenue Street Fair 2025 Guide

Our team at Go Visit San Diego loves a good music festival!

While I personally really enjoy the biggest ones in Downtown San Diego like the annual Wonderfront Music & Art Festival, which was held in May at the Embarcadero Marina Park North and the Seaport Village, and the San Diego Into the Horizon Festival, which was held in June at Waterfront Park, there’s something really special about the more ‘local’ feeling music and street fairs.

The North Park Music Fest which was also held in June is always a blast but I must say that one of my absolute favorites of the year is the Adams Avenue Street Fair!

What You Should Know About the Adams Avenue Street Fair

As featured in Awesome Autumn Arts, the 43rd annual Adams Avenue Street Fair is one of San Diego’s largest free music festivals of its kind featuring 75 musical acts over 7 stages. Held in the historic Normal Heights district, it’s one that I look forward to every year!

Why? Because it captures everything we love about San Diego: creativity, community, beer gardens, and a move-to-the-music vibe.

What makes this fall fair special? 75 live bands, dozens of local food vendors, handcrafted goods, a family zone, and new for 2025 over 300 exhibitors and expanded local artist showcases spotlighting emerging San Diego talent.

When is the Adams Avenue Street Fair in 2025

The 2025 Adams Avenue Street Fair will be held on Saturday, September 20th from 10:00am until 10:00pm and then again on Sunday, September 21st from 10:00am until 6:00pm.

Adams Avenue Admission and Local Lodging

So you’re probably wondering about tickets and how much they cost for the Adams Avenue Street Fair.

If you want to make a weekend out of it, you also might be thinking about where you’d like to stay nearby. Let me fill you in on the ticket situation and share my favorite hotels near the street fair.

Free Admission

With so many musical acts I know it’s hard to believe but you won’t need a ticket as admission to the Adams Avenue Street Fair is free! Last year’s paid VIP options are not listed at this time.

Pro tip: bring a debit or credit card (or cash). The craft beer garden sells wristbands (21+) for tastings, and there are outdoor markets, food, and beverages for sale throughout this fall festival.

Neighborhoods and Lodging

If you're traveling in for the fair, gathering a few friends, looking to have a few drinks, or just want a stress-free staycation, booking a hotel nearby is a smart idea!

Some top neighborhoods close to this San Diego cultural event include Normal Heights, which is walkable to the fair and a great shopping destination. It’s also one of San Diego’s hottest neighborhoods. Slightly further out, University Heights offers historic charm and would also be a good choice for a hotel.

Adams Avenue runs east/west north of Balboa Park, actually crossing through University Heights and Kensington as well as Normal Heights. For a trendy and chic stay, I’d suggest the Lafayette Hotel, a 4-star, one-of-a-kind, retro-style hotel with comfortable rooms and a famous pool.

You could also go up to Mission Valley, which wouldn’t be far, and choose the Sheraton San Diego Mission Valley or San Diego Marriott Mission Valley. These are both nice properties with big pools and clean rooms. Either would be a great choice!

Must-See Local Artists and Performers

Something I love about The Adams Avenue Street Fair is the exposure to a diverse mix of genres, including rock, punk, indie, blues, and some of San Diego’s hottest local bands.

Whether you go to dance, chill, or discover, the music scene has something for everyone. Sugar Brown, Nicole Fly, Peach Cooler, and the Creepy Creeps are but a few fantastic local artists performing this year.

Family Fun Activities and Entertainment

When I can, I love to bring my kids along for the fun.

Is the Adams Avenue Street Fair Family-friendly?

Bringing the kids? Yes, the Adams Avenue Street Fair is a family-friendly fall event.

Activities like the Fern Street Circus performances, interactive craft stations, face painting, and carnival rides keep my youngest entertained.

Also, don’t miss the Family Zone. It’s a safe, shaded space where kids can play and parents can relax without missing the community festival’s vibrant energy.

My fellow foodies rejoice! You can explore the food trucks and local vendors offering everything from tacos to vegan delights.

Even with the kids in tow, parents need to relax. Don’t miss the three craft beer gardens. I’ve already purchased my VIP beer pre-sale deal for $21.

Transportation Tips and Where to Park Your Car

Let’s dive into how to get you to the event, plus if you decide to drive, where I think you should park, and more!

Getting There

The Adams Avenue Street Fair unfolds right in the heart of Normal Heights, centered near 33rd Street and Adams Avenue.

To get there from Downtown San Diego, take I-805 or I-15 north and exit at El Cajon Boulevard or Adams Avenue.

Coming from North County? Head south on I-805, exit at El Cajon Blvd, and head west.

Sometimes my family finds that it’s easier not to drive. The MTS bus routes 11 and 215 run directly to the festival area, and San Diego rideshare drop-off zones are available near 30th Street and Adams Avenue. A cool bike valet is also available for cyclists.

Parking Options

Parking is pretty limited, so plan ahead. Street parking is available in surrounding neighborhoods like University Heights and North Park, but it fills up quickly. Look for clearly marked temporary parking signs and avoid blocking driveways or red zones.

Some locals also offer paid parking on private lots nearby, especially along 33rd and Monroe Streets. Keep your eyes peeled for signage.

Safety & Accessibility

I love that the Adams Avenue Street Fair is a family-friendly and accessible event. The streets are flat and wheelchair accessible, with ADA-compliant portable restrooms close to many of the stages.

Last year I brought my niece in a stroller. The festival was easy to navigate, especially early in the day before peak crowds.

If you lose something, there’s a designated Lost and Found and Information Booth. First aid tents and visible event staff and security are also easy to find throughout the grounds.

Need a breather? The shaded Cool Zone is a fantastic place to escape the heat.

Below are a few tips and things to know that will make sure you are prepared for the street fair!

Day-Of Insider Tips

To beat the crowds, it’s best to arrive in the first two hours of opening. In past years, Saturdays were busiest between 2:00pm and 6:00pm, while Sundays were a little more relaxed.

My family thinks this year’s “can’t miss acts” are Nortec: Bostich + Fussible and The Schizophonics. They’re high on our agenda.

What Else is Going on in San Diego on the Weekend of September 20th and 21st?

The Pacific Islander Festival is being held on the same weekend in Mission Bay Park at Ski Beach. This event is also a free, educational experience that includes music, dance, food, and a celebration of culture that is worth checking out!

How’s San Diego’s Weather in September?

San Diego’s weather is warm and sunny this time of year, with temperatures in the high 70s.

I’d suggest that you dress comfortably, wear sunscreen, and bring a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated.

Food, Pets, and Bags

Outside food and drinks aren’t allowed, but the local food and beverage vendors and beverage options are amazing.

Pets are not permitted unless they are service animals, and large bags or coolers are a no-go too.

What are the Hours of the Adams Avenue Street Fair?

The fun at Adams Avenue runs from 10:00am to 10:00pm on Saturday and 10:00am to 6:00pm on Sunday.

The festival is large, covering 10 city blocks, so a map is helpful. Schedules for last-minute updates can also come in handy. It’s a good idea to visit the official Adams Avenue Street Fair website and download the event guide before heading out.

Overall I would say that the festival is relaxed, family-friendly, and packed with things to do. So come ready to explore, eat, drink, dance, and enjoy every moment!
