What’s Brewing at SeaWorld San Diego This Halloween?

My family and I are big animal lovers. We also are big fans of San Diego’s incredible fall weather. So when October rolls around and we can spend a day together at SeaWorld San Diego enjoying the sea life and sunny skies while attending the theme park’s seasonal event, we’re all in!

Halloween Spooktacular at SeaWorld San Diego is an all-day, can’t miss experience if you’ve got little kids, love fall vibes, or just want some candy with your sea life. It’s a festive, family-friendly, fall activity that’s more than worth the price of admission!

What is Halloween Spooktacular at SeaWorld San Diego?

Halloween Spooktacular is SeaWorld San Diego’s all age fall seasonal experience. Pirate-themed in 2025, the daytime event includes interactive games, a beautiful pumpkin patch with views of Mission Bay, trick-or-treating at candy stations throughout the park, an all-new dance party and storytelling.

It also includes festive live music, a pumpkin themed scavenger hunt, kids in costumes, and plenty of incredible photo opportunities.

When is Halloween Spooktacular at SeaWorld San Diego?

SeaWorld San Diego’s Halloween Spooktacular takes place on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays starting Saturday, September 6th, lasting through the month of October, and ending on Sunday, November 2nd, 2025.

Why Spooktacular Hits Different

Halloween Spooktacular at SeaWorld San Diego is playful, safe and family-fun. You can expect colorful decorations, interactive characters, live music, and plenty of candy for the kids!

Whether you’ve got costumed toddlers or teens and tweens, Spooktacular is an all-day event that will surely get you into the Halloween spirit.

Not Your Typical Southern California Haunt

If you’re searching for more scary Southern California Halloween events, there are plenty of options including Howl-O-Scream SeaWorld San Diego, The Haunted Trail of Balboa Park and if you’re willing to venture a bit beyond San Diego, Knott’s Scary Farm. All of those events are intended for teenagers and adults and I know that our founder Todd and his teenage son love them!

Halloween Spooktacular is intended for younger kids. It’s a not-so-scary Halloween event in the same line as HalGLOWeen at the San Diego Zoo, the Brick-or-Treat Monster Party at LEGOLAND California, and just beyond San Diego again, Knott’s Spooky Farm. All of these San Diego Halloween events are designed for kids 12 and under.

My Favorite Deals

There are a couple of ways to get discounted admission to Spooktacular versus just buying a general admission ticket.

The Go City San Diego pass is always a great deal, but from Oct 1st -14th, you can buy one adult and get up to four kids’ passes free. Just pick SeaWorld San Diego as your premium attraction and add two more stops to use by October 31st.

This year’s Halloween Spooktacular welcomes spooky fun, silly characters, and surprises to the park.

Whether you’re visiting for the candy, the Halloween themed shows, or the festive vibes, there’s something for every age and plenty that’s brand-new for 2025.

What’s New in 2025?

Spooktacular 2025 has some new additions you won’t want to miss. Located near the Waterfront area, look out for a dancing pumpkin named Spookley the Square Pumpkin and his happy friend Jack Scarecrow. There your kids can listen to a story, take a picture, and show off their dance moves at what I would describe as an awesome dance party!

The Bones Brothers Quartet is the other 2025 all-new experience and these guys are really cool. The animatronic quartet of talking skeletons tell jokes and sing songs. You’ll find them near the front of the park.

There’s also always new decorations and photo spots and I’ve heard they’ve added new stops along the expanded trick-or-treat trail as well!

Trick or Treat Stations at the Halloween Spooktacular at SeaWorld San Diego
Trick or Treat Stations at the Halloween Spooktacular at SeaWorld San Diego

Trick-or-Treating with a Twist

The trick-or-treat trail is stroller-friendly and one of the highlights of the event. Candy stations are spread across colorful themed zones; think pirate coves, sea creature hideouts, and glowing jellyfish walkways.

Offered on Fridays from 4:00pm until 7:00pm and on Saturdays & Sundays from 1:00pm until 7:00pm, your kids will need a reusable bag to participate. SeaWorld San Diego sells reusable candy bags at retail locations for $4.99 if you forget yours. Oh, and your kids are free to come in their favorite Halloween costumes as well!

Character Meet-and Greets

The surprise moments for my kids are some of my favs. This year, they’ll find silly animatronic skeletons, Captain Sweet Tooth and First Mate Peggy, sharing their stories near the Waterfront area.

Your kids will also find a friendly mermaid ready for photos and high-fives at Rescue Jr.

Live Performances

The Mission Bay Theatre will be hosting the O.P. Otter’s Spooktacular Surprise Show this season. O.P. Otter and his SeaWorld character friends will welcome your kids for a costume party complete with song and dance to celebrate fall.

If you’d like a little live music, head to the SkyTower Lawn for performances by the Pirate Sea Shanty Band. The Scurvy Squad will be putting on an energetic performance filled with high energy pirate-y songs you and your family will love.

Spooktacular Pumpkin Hunt

My kids love a good scavenger hunt. With a pirate-theme at Spooktacular, it only makes sense that they would get to look for treasure!

When you purchase a Spooktacular Pumpkin Map at a SeaWorld store you can embark on a park wide hunt to find SeaWorld and Halloween inspired painted pumpkins. A completed map earns your kids a special prize at Reef Gifts!

Don’t Miss the Waterfront Pumpkin Patch

The Waterfront Pumpkin Patch is the place to go if you want incredible pictures with your family!

Located near the back of the park, you’ll find a colorful pumpkin patch complete with fall decorations, tasty food, roaming live music, and stunning views of Mission Bay.

What About the Park’s Roller Coasters and Rides?

As a daytime event, all your favorite rides and rollercoasters, like the park’s newest coaster, Arctic Rescue, will be open all day long. In addition, Manta will feature a special Halloween-themed multimedia show just for the fall season!

Tasty Treats & Seasonal Snacks

Halloween-themed goodies are one of my personal favorite parts of the event and include things like pumpkin cupcakes, spooky cookies, and, my favorite, candy corn-inspired sundaes. Snack stands are located throughout the park, especially near the trick-or-treat trail and event hubs.

For full meals, Shipwreck Reef Café and Manta Pizza are two of my kid’s favorites. If your family has food allergies, SeaWorld San Diego offers gluten-free and allergy-friendly menus upon request.

Can My Kids Take Part in the Halloween Howl-O-Sprint 5k Run?

Yes! While not directly part of Spooktacular, the 2nd annual SeaWorld San Diego Howl-O-Sprint 5k run is a family-friendly event taking place on Sunday, October 19th.

The 5k starts at 7:00am with the kids 1-mile Fun Run starting at 8:30am. The event goes through the park with competitors receiving an official race shirt and one-of-a-kind finisher medal, a nice prize and an active way for families to celebrate Halloween together!

Celebrate Día de los Muertos at SeaWorld San Diego

Back by popular demand, SeaWorld San Diego will celebrate Día de los Muertos on November 1st and 2nd with beautiful catrina statues, ofrendas, and flowers honoring loved ones who have passed.

Our team loves the Día de los Muertos celebrations throughout San Diego and especially the celebrations in Old Town San Diego where you’ll find our founder Todd and his family each November.

Getting to Halloween Spooktacular

Located in Mission Bay Park, SeaWorld San Diego is easy to get to by car, rideshare or one of San Diego’s public transportation options.

Driving & Parking

Interstate 5 is your best bet to get to SeaWorld San Diego. You’ll see signs no matter what direction you come from for SeaWorld. Take the West Mission Bay Drive exit from I-5, and the signs will lead you right to the parking lot.

Parking is included with some season passes. General parking is $25, or closer parking is $28, and VIP parking starts at $35. RV and camper parking is $30.

Public Transportation Options

Driving and parking can be a pain. But the good news is that you’ll have options!

Take the San Diego Trolley to the Old Town Transit Center. From there grab a San Diego rideshare, taxi, or local bus which will get you to the park in just over 20 minutes.

The Metropolitan Transit System routes to SeaWorld you should be looking for at the Old Town Transit Center are routes 8 and 9. The Old Town Transit Center also can connect you to the Amtrak, the Coaster, and other bus services.

SeaWorld San Diego is quite accessible with wheelchair and stroller paths.

To make the most of your visit, here’s a few more things we think you should know before you go straight from locals, regulars (like me), and the SeaWorld San Diego staff.

When is the Best Time to Visit?

The first two weekends in October typically have lighter crowds. Lines for candy, food, and shows tend to get long after noon, so it’s best to arrive early.

However, I can say that I have attended closer to Halloween as well and if you try to avoid the absolute peak hours and show times, you can have a great time no matter when you visit.

Little Girl Getting Candy at the Halloween Spooktacular at SeaWorld San Diego

Is Spooktacular Scary?

No! Spooktacular keeps it light without the haunted houses and creepy mazes. The park is filled with fall-themed colors, dance-along music, and plenty of places for kids to play and explore.

Costumes and Comfort

Costumes are part of the fun for all ages! Guests 13 and older though cannot wear masks and hoods and face painting is only permitted if done by a park employee.

Also keep the San Diego weather in mind. Wear comfy walking shoes and light layers for cool October mornings and sunny afternoons.

How Long Should We Stay?

You can enjoy most of Spooktacular in about 4–6 hours, but if you’re mixing in rides, shows, and animal exhibits, I suggest that you plan for a full day.

Park Rules

SeaWorld San Diego checks bags at entry. Costume masks are allowed for kids but scary stuff is restricted. Also, it’s best to double-check park hours on the official website on the day you plan to attend as they can shift slightly closer to Halloween.

Can I Rent a Stroller?

Yes, once inside there are strollers for rent and plenty of stroller parking at the attractions.
