Whether you’re a local or visiting the San Diego area, Petco Park is heating up this summer and fall with chart-topping concerts, baseball games, and other unique experiences.

What is the History of Petco Park?

Petco Park was built in 2004. You can find it in the East Village neighborhood of Downtown San Diego.

The 1909 Metal Supply Company building is incorporated in the park’s design. It serves as the left field foul pole, which is a unique feature you just have to see to believe.

Located just minutes from the San Diego Bay, Embarcadero and Gaslamp Quarter, the views of the Downtown San Diego skyline beyond center field add to the allure of this ‘newer’, yet historical feeling venue!

New for Petco Park in 2025

While every year is a good year to visit Petco Park in San Diego County, this year’s event lineup is better than ever! I’m really impressed at who’s coming! From rock favorites like the Pixies to Latin music from Bomba Estéreo, I think there’s a little something for everyone.

Be sure to keep an eye out for the Breezy Bowl XX Stadium World Tour, which is making a rare San Diego stop. With family-friendly events and late-night concerts, you won’t want to miss out on the events coming to Petco Park soon!

Are All of the Concerts Inside Petco Park?

No, all of the concerts and events will not be held inside of Petco Park. But don’t worry, Petco Park is an incredibly versatile venue with a huge green space that’s perfect for some of the more niche performances!

With that in mind, some of the concerts will be at Gallagher Square, which is just outside Petco Park. You can expect to see a few of the smaller shows at this venue.

Catch a Summer MLB San Diego Padres Game

We can’t possibly talk about Petco Park without talking a little about the San Diego Padres!

While Opening Day 2025 is behind us, as is the All-Star break in mid-July, there are 158 games in a season, with about half of them being home games. With so many games each season, there are still plenty of exciting series ahead as the Padres make a push towards the post season, and hopefully a pennant!

Padres Special Events

The Padres are well known for hosting special weekly events like their ‘Party in the Park’ on Fridays, complete with $5 drink specials and live music.

For Sunday games you can enjoy the family-friendly ‘Kidsfest’ with bounce houses, face painting and more, plus their ‘Kids Run the Bases’ event where children 14 and under can see how quick they are around the base paths after the game concludes!

As a local tip, be on the lookout for giveaways and special events like the Pacific Islander Heritage Celebration when the Padres play the Reds on September 10th. The Padres host many events like this one throughout their season that take a game from ‘standard’ to ‘exceptional’!

Be sure to check out the complete summer and fall schedule so you can put a game on your calendar. You can join our founder Todd who loves to grab a local San Diego beer, a taco, and his family for a game to cheer on the team!

How Can I Buy Tickets for Petco Park Events?

You can buy tickets directly from the Petco Park events website or an authorized reseller like Ticketmaster, depending on the event. Prices vary greatly by event, starting at $25 and going up to $150 and more. Children under 36” get in free with an adult. They won’t get their own seat so your smaller kids will have to sit on an adult’s lap.

Know Before You Go

So you’re excited about Petco Park (awesome, me too!), have picked out your event, bought your tickets, and now let me share some advice on how best to get to the park, plus a few bonus tips you’ll want to know before you arrive.

Fifth Ave Trolley Station in Downtown San Diego

What’s the Best Way to Get to Petco Park?

My strong recommendation for getting to Petco Park is to take the San Diego Trolley!

I promise you that it’s easy to navigate and will take you right to the park without the hassle of having to deal with traffic and parking.

Driving to the Park

If you’re driving to the park, here are the exits you’ll want to know:

  • I-5 North, exit Imperial Ave
  • I-5 South, exit 10th Ave
  • Hwy 163 South, exit 10th Ave.
  • From the East, take - 94 West to F St., and turn left on 14th Ave.
  • From the South, take - 5 North to B St., left on 10th Ave or 5 North, exit J St.

Parking & Other Transportation Options

Purchasing pre-paid parking is always recommended. You can also use Spot Hero to find a spot in nearby Downtown San Diego.

Parking at the San Diego Convention Center is a solid choice with spots usually costing around $15 to $35. You could also grab a tasty meal in Little Italy San Diego or Seaport Village before your event, both have a stop on the Trolley, it is fast and easy!

Another option would be to access the area by public transport using bus routes since many stops are within walking distance.

What Food Options are Available at Petco Park?

Our founder Todd loves the local food and craft beer vendors at Petco Park. When it comes to food, there’s everything from fish tacos to Tijuana-style hot dogs. No outside food is allowed, so check out the vendors while you’re here.

Places to Stay Near Petco Park

Games and concerts often run quite late, so many people like to stay over.

The Omni San Diego Hotel is a great option because it is literally attached to Petco Park with a sky bridge. You can enjoy a luxurious and convenient stay all rolled in one as I can tell you that their pillow top mattresses are like heaven!

Bonus Tips & Policies to Know

  • San Diego summer temperatures are no joke! Bring sunscreen for daytime events. And while the sun can be strong during the day, it can get much cooler and breezy in the evening. A light jacket or sweatshirt is always a good idea.
  • Petco Park has a strict bag policy. You can generally bring a small purse or fanny pack into games and events but larger bags are generally prohibited unless they are clear. Check Petco’s official website for complete details.
  • Service animals are always welcomed. If you want to bring your pet for an event, look for special promos like ‘Bark at the Park’ and the ‘Bark at the Big Screen – Petco’s 60th Birthday!’ event set for August 12th, 2025!
