Torrey Pines Gears Up for the 2026 Farmers Insurance Open

US Open of Golf at Torrey Pines Golf CourseOcean Cliffs Next to Torrey Pines Golf Course

The Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines Golf Course is an event I have only been to once, yet I fully intend to return, as it made a lasting impression.

There's something truly special about watching world-class golfers compete on one of the most stunning courses in the country. The ocean views, the coastal bluffs, the way the fog rolls in some mornings – I think anyone that's been in past year's would agree that it's this atmosphere that makes it unique, setting it apart from other PGA TOUR events.

Another thing I love is the freedom to explore. You'll be able to walk the courses, following your favorite golfers from hole to hole or green to green, or you can grab a seat in one of the grandstands and let the action come to you. There's truly no wrong way to do it!

What is the Farmers Insurance Open in Torrey Pines

The Farmers Insurance Open is an Official PGA TOUR Tournament, part of the West Coast Swing. Around 150 professional golfers will tee off in a 72-hole stroke play over the four days of action.

Players will alternate between the north and south courses for rounds one and two (one round per course). After 36 holes, the field will be cut to the low 65 and ties; all remaining players will stick around to play rounds 3 and 4 on the south course over the weekend.

When and Where is the Event

The 2026 Farmers Insurance Open will take place from Thursday, January 29th to Sunday, February 1st, 2026 at Torrey Pines Golf Course in northern La Jolla.

With Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve, an incredible location for a hike to its north, and the University of California San Diego to its south, the whole area offers stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and surrounding scenery you just have to see to believe. In my opinion, it is one of San Diego's nicest golf courses, and that's saying something!

Gates will open between 8:00am - 8:30am, with fan zones scheduled to open between 9:00am - 9:30am, depending on the day. The golf typically lasts 8 to 10 hours each day.

Tournament History

The event has a rich 74-year history, dating back to 1952, when it launched as the San Diego Open.

First played at the San Diego Country Club, it relocated several times before it found its forever home at the Torrey Pines Golf Course, a 36-hole public municipal facility owned by the city of San Diego. Today it's organized by the Century Club and has become an early season mainstay on the PGA TOUR calendar.

How Can I Watch the 2026 Farmers Insurance Open on TV?

If you want to watch on TV, head to the Golf Channel for early rounds, CBS for Saturday and Sunday, or stream it on PGA TOUR Live (ESPN+) with more coverage on the NBC Sports App/Paramount+.

Tickets & Admission: What You Should Know

Ready to start planning? Here's what you need to know about securing tickets to the event!

Ticket Pricing, Options & More!

Pricing will vary depending on what experience you prefer, whether than be a grounds ticket to roam around the holes like me and my kids, all the way up to a VIP Hospitality experience!

There are special rates for groups, bundles, and VIP experiences, as well as potential discounts for Military, Seniors, and kids! All ticket prices below are valid through January 19th at which time prices will increase.

Tickets may be purchased online through Ticketmaster. All guests are welcome, meaning there are no age restrictions, and you do not need to be a member or sponsor to attend.

Grounds Tickets

It's been my personal experience that Grounds Tickets are an awesome option for friends, groups, or those that want to walk around the course and get a feel for a few different holes. I'd also suggest these tickets as the most budget-friendly option for families.

They include general access to the tournament grounds and various attractions, including the Fan Village, The Grove, Tito's Golf Club, and the Maestro Dobel Tequila Club.

  • Thursday or Friday: $75
  • Saturday or Sunday: $85

ULTRA PASS - Ultra Zone Shared Hospitality

If you want to step your experience up a notch, an ULTRA PASS would be a solid choice!

This package includes seating at the 9th tee on the Torrey Pines South Course. It includes beer, seltzer, and non-alcoholic beverages, access to the ULTRA Zone covered and outdoor tables, dedicated food and beverage concessions, televisions showing live coverage and scoring, and upgraded restrooms.

Daily Pricing

  • Thursday or Friday: $188

Canyon Club - Shared VIP Hospitality

If you're looking for a more high-end, catered, luxury feeling experience, tickets in the Canyon Club would be my suggestion. While I've personally not had the privilege just yet of the experience, my golf buddies have said it's the only way to go!

This package includes seating overlooking the Torrey Pines South Course 17th and 8th greens, an all-inclusive food and full bar, covered open-air seating (first-come, first-served), televisions showing live coverage and scoring, and again, those very important dedicated, upgraded restrooms!

Weekly Pricing:

  • Thursday-Sunday $1,700

Group Pricing (8+):

  • Thursday Only: $405

Are There Any Discount Tickets Available?

Yes! Military members, youth 15 and under, and Seniors may qualify for discounts.

  • Active Duty, Reserve, Retired Military and Veterans are eligible for a maximum of 4 discounted Thursday or Friday tickets for $10 off each through the GOVX verification system.
  • Kids 15 and under can get a FREE Grounds Ticket when accompanied by an adult. Each ticketed adult can bring one youth.
  • Seniors 60 and older can get $10 off on a Thursday and/or Friday Ground Ticket by simply selecting a Senior ticket at checkout. Just be sure to bring your ID to the course!

Consider an Overnight Stay

If you're not from the area, then you'll likely want to book an overnight stay near the course. I would highly recommend The Lodge at Torrey Pines. This 5-star, luxury property overlooks the golf course, so you can't get any closer to the action.

My family and I always enjoy staying at the resort any time of the year but a stay during the Farmers Insurance Open would be what I'd call 'an experience on top of an experience'! The property offers a signature spa, great dining, and plenty of resort activities. It's one of our favorite staycation destinations in San Diego.

If you can't secure a room or suite during the tournament, have a look through our Best Hotels in La Jolla article for more stays our team at Go Visit San Diego would highly recommend.

What's the Daily Golf Schedule?

The scheduling is as follows:

  • Thursday, Jan. 29th: Round 1 will be played on the North and South Courses, 150-156 players will participate as the 72-hole stroke begins.

Which Golfers Will Participate at the 2026 Farmers Insurance Open?

While we won't see Tiger Woods compete in 2026, there will be an incredible field of the world's best golfers including the 2025 champion Harris English, the 2024 winner Matthieu Pavon, plus Xander Schauffele and many more!

Although the 2026 roster is not fully confirmed, you can look forward to seeing notable players, including:

  • Hideki Matsuyama - 2021 Masters Champion, World No. 17
  • Justin Rose - 2013 U.S. Open Champion, 2019 Farmers Open Champion
  • Adam Scott - 2013 Masters Champion, 2019 runner-up
  • Gary Woodland - 2019 U.S. Open Champion
  • Brooks Koepka: Nine-time PGA tour winner

I'll personally be rooting for local players like Charley Hoffman (Poway High School alum) and Michael Kim (Torrey Pines High School Alum).

Things to Do Beyond the Golf

With so much to do at the Farmers Insurance Open, you don't even need to be a golf fan to have an incredible experience. Here are some things my family and I will be checking out this year.

ServPro Fan Village

Located on the Torrey Pines South Course, right in the middle of it all, the ServPro Fan Village will offer a Michelob pop-up bar, a merchandise tent, concessions, and picnic tables. You'll also be able to eat and drink at Bushmills Irish Whisky Bar, Dobel Tequila Bar, the Fever-Tree Cocktail Bar, and the Birria Taco Stand.

The Grove

Located between the 7th and 18th fairways, The Grove will offer cozy lawn seating, picnic benches, and scenic views of nature.

There you also find a Michelob ULTRA Build-a-Bar, as well as a Beaurista Mobile Coffee Trailer, Dobel Tequila Club, special breakfast at Sidecar Donuts, and signature drinks and interactivities for fans at Tito's Golf Club.

Vantage Point

Located near the 1st tee and 18th hole of the Torrey Pines South Course, this area will offer a practice putting green, an autograph area, the Torrey Pines Golf Shop, and cocktails at Tito's at the Tee.

Things to Do Beyond the Course

If you're looking for things to do in La Jolla before or after the tournament, our team at Go Visit San Diego is ready to make a few suggestions.

Check out any of the family-friendly beaches in La Jolla like the Children's Pool for seals and sea lions or La Jolla Shores for white sand, sunbathing, swimming and that perfect beach day experience. If you want to go surfing, check out Windansea Beach, and for some of the coolest tide pools in San Diego, head to La Jolla Tide Pools.

Away from the beach, you can explore Downtown La Jolla or the Village of La Jolla for some shopping, or to grab a coffee or nice meal.

If you like to hike, Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve is our pick, and for attractions in the area, my family's favorite nearby would be the Birch Aquarium at Scripps, part of the discount program known as the Go City San Diego pass. You should check it out if you want the absolute best deals and discounts in town! Use our discount code GVSD5OFF to save a little more and also pop over to the San Diego Zoo in Balboa Park (included with the pass), a world-class zoo featuring animals from all over the planet!

Getting There in Style: Parking & Transportation

Parking and transportation concerns often equal stress, especially at a big event like this one!

As a local that's been to Torrey Pines more times that I can count, I've gathered some parking and transportations tips to help you better plan ahead.

Navigating to the Golf Course

Torrey Pines Golf Course is located at 11480 N Torrey Pines Rd., La Jolla, CA 92037.

Perfectly positioned on the cliffs above the Pacific Ocean, you'll likely want to take I-5 and look for the signs to guide you.

Whether you're headed to Torrey Pines North Course of Torrey Pines South Course, you'll be looking for Genesee Ave which turns into N Torrey Pines Road.

Parking

If you want to drive to the tournament, the organization requires you to purchase parking in advance due to limited availability. There will be no onsite parking sales.

Pricing varies, but be aware that some lots are closer than others, with some in walking distance and others requiring shuttle services. Additionally, not all lots offer parking for all event days.

Alternatives to Driving

I like to eliminate the hassles of driving and parking with options like:

  • Bicycle Valet: This free service is available courtesy of San Diego County. However, you must register and secure a ticket in advance. Share bikes and scooters are not eligible.
  • San Diego Rideshare: There will be a drop-off and pick-up area adjacent to the south entrance. More specifically, the Ridesharing Lounge is located at the Gliderport entrance at 2880 Torrey Pines Scenic Drive, La Jolla, CA 92037.

Helpful Stress-Reducing Tips

Now that you know all about the 2026 Farmers Insurance Open, here are a few more tips that will make your experience as stress-free as possible.

Onsite Policies & Additional Services

I know how it is - you walk quite a way to the event, take a shuttle to the entrance, and find you are denied admission at the door because you're carrying an oversized bag. Fortunately, the Farmers Open website has instructions on what not to bring and tips on how to get through the door quickly to support a no-hassle experience.

The Farmers Insurance Open has an entire page dedicated to all the tournament guidelines covering things like re-entry policy, permitted and prohibited items, mobile device policies, ADA viewing, where to find the lost and found and more!

What Should I Wear?

If this is your first time in San Diego, don't believe the hype. It can get chilly in the mornings and evenings, especially if you're right near the beach. I recommend wearing layers so you can peel them off throughout the day as temperatures rise.

Also, be sure to wear comfortable shoes for all that walking, a hat, sunglasses, and sunblock.

Follow the Etiquette Rules

  • Keep phones silent. Photos are typically allowed, except when the player is over the ball.
  • Be quiet while players are hitting - obey the Marshalls' stop paddles.
  • No autographs during play - there are autograph sections for fans along the grounds.
